Don't judge a DVD by it's cover. Mutton dressed as lamb.....
I bought this DVD in the hope that because it is associated with a professional kickboxer/trainer, Frank Thiboutot, it would be of good quality and a DVD that I could use to keep my fitness up in between kickboxing sessions. The front cover looks up to date and modern and in keeping with the current image of fitness or cardio kickboxing. However the woman on the front does NOT appear in the DVD, nor does anyone remotely like her. Partially this is because the footage used is about 25 years old!.....the quality, music and clothing of the people in Frank's class are all so 80's! The front cover and the 'blurb' bears little relation to what you actually get. The production of the DVD itself is low budget and it 'jumps' when playing. The workout itself is something I will never use (in contrast to the Keli Roberts 10 minute solution kickboxing DVD which I also bought). First you watch an intro by Frank, which included some footage of 'professional kickboxing', an oddly chosen piece of footage featuring one of his charges. Bears little relevance to wanting to work out in your living room. He then goes through the basic techniques of punching and kicking, which if a complete beginner might be helpful, however it is stilted and he is just not naturally comfortable in front of a camera! There is then a studio of people and Frank holds a class. Basically the camera just sits there filming a kickboxing class and at times a strange looking 80's style blonde woman in her fifties blocks the viewers view of the instructor. Not helpful at all. Very strange selection of people in 80's leotards and what look like tennis outfits. And that is if you have tolerated the music that long. There are sections of 120seconds of pure skipping and 120 seconds of pure shadow boxing. There is a whole section with equipment which not many people have in their living rooms (rather than small medicine balls or free weights, it was speed bags/large punch bags etc), so about a third of the DVD is useless to me. Overall it is monotonous and boring and simply very poor quality, so therefore I feel I have been conned. I did wonder why I could find no reviews at all on the internet, but maybe noone else has been unfortunate enough to be taken in by the image and description of this product. I submit this review so that anyone else who is considering wasting their money...steer away from this DVD and go for one where there are lots of positive reviews. I paid more for this one than the Keli Roberts and that is WAY better, modern, effective and does what it says on the box.
