Amazon.co.ukpHow does iSpider-Man 3/i follow on the heels of its predecessor, which was widely considered the best superhero movie ever? For starters, you pick up the loose threads from that movie, then add some key elements of the iSpidey/i comic-book mythos (including fan-favorite villain Venom), the black costume, and the characters of Gwen Stacy and her police-captain father. In the beginning, things have never looked better for Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire): He's doing well in school; his alter ego, Spider-Man, is loved and respected around New York City. And his girlfriend, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst), has just taken a starring role in a Broadway musical. But nothing good can last for Spidey. Mary Jane's career quickly goes downhill; she's bothered by Peter's attractive new classmate, Gwen Stacy (Bryce Dallas Howard); and the new iDaily Bugle/i photographer, Eddie Brock (Topher Grace), is trying to steal his thunder. Enter a new villain, the Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), who can transform his body into various forms and shapes of sand and who may be connected to Peter's past in an unexpected way. There's also the son of an old villain, Harry Osborne (James Franco), who unmasked Spidey in the previous movie and still has revenge on his mind. And a new black costume seems to boost Spidey's powers, but transforms mild-mannered Peter into a mean and obnoxious boor (Maguire has some fun here)./p pIf that sounds like a lot to pack into one 140-minute movie, it is. While director Sam Raimi keeps things flowing, assisted on the screenplay by his brother Ivan and Alvin Sargent, there's a little too much going on, and it's inevitable that one of the villains (there are three or four, depending on how you count) gets significantly short-changed. Still, the cast is excellent, the effects are fantastic, and the action is fast and furious. Even if iSpider-Man 3/i isn't the match of iSpider-Man 2/i, it's a worthy addition to the megamillion-dollar franchise. i--David Horiuchi/i/p

Great!I was really looking forward to the DVDs coming and they did so very quickly even though I was told it would be atleast a week. The box had a little tea and one of the cases had a broken plastic bit, but I wasn't expecting it to be in perfect condition, it did have to go through the post.
br /So the films were awesome! I loved them!
br /A very good buy, for a very good value!

Dark SpideyAfter the immense success of the first two films, I was really excited to go and see Spiderman 3. The whole ad campaign for this film was about internal darkness 'The battle within', as the posters said. I expected a darker and more serious Spidey, however this film turned out to be responsible for some the silliest and craziest scenes I've ever seen in a superhero movie (that dance scene in the street, for example. Funny? Yes. Needed? NO.)
br /One major disappointment was the way this film handled the villains. Sandman is an okay character but perhaps too sympathetic. With Doc Ock, Raimi really made him feel human, to make his transformation all the more shocking and real. Sandman's backstory, however, is just going over the top. He's the father to a really poor family who's got a dying daughter and is a misunderstood ex-con and didn't mean to kill Uncle Ben and only wants to be loved.... it just felt forced to me, despite Thomas Haden Church's nice performance. And his origin scene? I don't recall Sandman's creation in the comics, but it definitely wasn't: Guy falls into giant sandpit. Big metal things spin really fast. Sandman is born! It's a small part of the film, but a scientist says 'It's probably just a bird. It'll fly away.' when they notice a creature in the test pit. If scientists are so reckless these days, no wonder supervillains keep popping up (however I have a suggestion for Spidey 4's villain: Sandbird, the misunderstood pigeon turned supervillain)
br /Venom is introduced waaay too late, accompanied by an underwhelming performance from Topher Grace. While the black suit's visuals are amazing, its story is totally ridiculous. In the comics, the suit is a symbiote, bonding with its host until it sucks out the good and creates an all powerful creature of pure evil. In the film, it's an alien that gives you an emo hairstyle and makes you thrust to 'Fever'. They should have developed Sandman more and introduced Venom at the end, as a cliffhanger to Spidey 4. Or just don't have Venom! You don't always have to please the fans! Just leave Venom be!
br /That said, I did enjoy parts. Like Harry's character throughout the series. He's gone from troubled rich kid to vengeful billionaire, and now, in a sinister turn from the great James Franco, the heir to the Green Goblin name.
br /The special effects are awesome, the performances from MOST cast members are excellent (Tobey MacGuire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, a nice cameo from Willem Defoe and the always great JK Simmons as J Jonah Jameson) but I have one question: Do we really need a touching speech from Aunt May in EVERY movie?

One star is too many.br /One of the worst made blockbuster films I have ever seen. Poorly edited, poorly written, poorly directed, and just generally poorly put together. The other two films were good fun, then I guess they grew complacent as they thought they had a guaranteed audience, so strung the film together with no thought at all.

br /The straw on the camels back was the shot of swinging in front of the American flag. I don't care much for American patriotism in films anyway, but if you are going to include it, at least hire someone who knows what a flag looks like to put it in.

br /I know noone cares about my opinion, and I usually refrain from doing negative reviews, but this was a terrible film. I can safely say in context, it is the worst film i have ever seen.

does whatever an over-budgeted cash-in can...Spiderman. Spiderman started all this. The sudden rush of superhero blockbusters. So what's behind the mask, behind the hype? Well i'd like to skip the first film, which in a word was enjoyable with the usual problem of predictability. Spiderman 2, this is where things could've either escalated to lofty heights or crashed and burned, unfortunately, it burned. The focus of the film seems too heavily focused on Peter Parkers life outside of spiderman and he really isnt a very likable character, he's whiney and unlovably nerdy and carries a certain arrogance in the performance like Peter Parker simply isnt meant to have. People complained about the train scene, saying is was cringe-worthily ridiculous, but in my oppinion it was one of the saving graces of the film.
br /
br /Spiderman 3, this was difficult to watch, once again the plot focuses in for a long time about Peters love life, his relationship with his friend, Harry his job and doesnt pick up pace until too late in the film for anyone to really care. Now the clincher, which really ruined the movie if nothing else did, its the ridiculous casting of Eddie Brock, played by the annoying Topher Grace who seemed unable to let go his role of Eric in That 70's Show, he was so many things Eddie Brock simply wasnt meant to be; Something Eddie Broke IS meant to be, is venom, and Venom features too breifly to save the film, and too long to just be sparking excitement for whatever future the spiderman films have, which would've been an incredibly difficult task at the end of a movie like this.
br /
br /These films have everything they need, the problem is they have too much of what they dont need and as a result they dont flow very well. They're worth a watch on TV, but I couldnt finish watching Spiderman-3 until the third watch, and I struggled to get past the half-way hump.
br /
br /It's just dissapointing is all.
