Faultless
Having read the reviews on this item i was in 2 minds on taking a chance as it was a bargain price.
In the end what the hell i can always return it,when it arrived i connected it up to my GZ-MG175 camcorder and set about doing a DVD of Christmas. In 30 mins i had a DVD of Christmas.
It was so easy to use with the menus on the camcorder.
The disks i use are Verbatim DVD -R.

Should have listened to everyone else!
Recently purchased a JVC Everio H/D camcorder and was having problems coping onto disc on my computer so purchased this item as thought it was a bargain! did read a few negative reviews but thought they must be doing something wrong ! When I tried to burn my disc got exactly the same message - "incompatable disc" tried every type of disc going and eventually rang JVC helpline who were most unhelpful and said it must be a faulty burner and to return it (which I have now done!) when I said to them that I had read of a number of people having the same problem they just said "it doesn't surprise me, we sell thousands of them and you aren't just going to get one or two that are faulty!" .. mmm. helpful.. thanks !!

So my advice would be DON'T BOTHER, save yourself the hassle!

Easy DVD creation
I bought this as I have an MG77 video camera and creating a dvd on my pc can take hours. I was somewhat worried by other reviews here but thought I would give it a try. I have so far burned two full DVDs without a problem. It is a little slow but results were good. The disk types I used were the JVC -R that came with the unit and an Imation DVD-R disk that I had on the shelf.
I am pleased with this product.

Has worked flawlessly so far
As the detail given here on Amazon is a bit basic, hopefully the following might help a few people out.

Ordered two of these from Amazon as they were very cheap at the time. Just wanted to use them as external DVD writers with my daughter's laptop drives - one had stopped writing CDs and neither would not work with region free software. Read the reviews on this unit and begun to wonder if I'd done the right thing!

First unit arrived today - burnt a DVD using Nero and some cheap AOne disks I'd picked up. Tried 2x first - burnt flawlessly, DVD plays back in my computer and the burning process was that quiet I thought it wasn't working. Tried again at 8x - another perfect disk! Finally, tried a region 4 disk (with region free software) - again, worked perfectly. Really pleased!

NOTE - as this is a DVD- burner it will NOT work with DVD+ disks. The box and manual state this clearly, although it's not clear from the Amazon description. Also, the box and manual state that it will burn at a maximun speed of 8x with DVD-R disks and 4x with DVD-RW disks! So, if you try to burn at 16x OR try to use DVD+ disks - it's not going to work!

As I don't own an Everio camcorder I have no idea how this works with that. Likewise, I've not bothered trying out the included software because what I've got is probably better/more flexible.

JVC Everio Share Station
I was mindful of previous comments when I purchased this product but thought it was worth a go at £29.99 to use as an external DVD burner (i.e no real intention to use "stand alone" with the camera). Thus far, I've had no problems with it. Today, it happily burned 30 mins of video footage to a Tesco -RW DVD (albeit the maximum speed supported for a RW is 4x)at the first time of asking. That said, I am not using the software provided with the burner (which seems not to support certain DVD burning without paying for an upgrade!) but am using the burning software provided with the camera (JVC EK 175)which is called Power Producer 3. This software has previously burned the same footage to a Tesco CD-R on my PC again with no problem. Both CD and DVD have played on a standard (fairly low spec) DVD player.
