Not only is IPlanet Earth/I one of the most jaw-dropping, ambitious, nature documentaries the BBC has ever produced, it’s now taken on another role: as a superb demonstration disc for the potential of HD DVD and Blu-ray. P Spread over a good ten hours, the series charts life and nature in dozens upon dozens of differing locations around the earth. Diligently and warmly narrated by Sir David Attenborough, IPlanet Earth/I calmly goes close in on its subject matter when required, and then pulls out some stunning perspective shots that are simply breathtaking. It’s hard to come up with the right superlatives to do the photography on the programme any kind of justice, and that it’s married to such fascinating subject matter is all the better. P And if you think the original broadcast of IPlanet Earth/I was something special, or you were gobsmacked by the picture quality on DVD, just wait until you see it in 1080p HD glory. Particularly some of the broader shots here are all but without parallel, and it’s a real reward for those who have invested ahead of the crowd in high definition technology. P Presented over five discs, and matching wonderful content to spot-on visual presentation, IPlanet Earth/I is now not just a landmark in nature documentary film making. Planet Earth in Glorious HD
A wonderful set of HD DVD's. Absolutely fantastic photography. br / br /Be sure before you buy though, that your equipment can play HD DVD's, as from looking at other reviews, so many people don't seem to check. These will NOT play on ordinary dvd players or bluray. I play mine on an Xbox with the HD DVD drive attached.

complete fail
This high HD box set didnt work on my HD player or on my HD TV. br /After returning a second box set which i got a freind to try on their HD player just in case it was my player . br /I decided to get the normal version which played fine and as i hadnt seen any of the programs before i would recomend this highly to any animal or nature lover. br /The photograthy is outstanding ,you coudnt have a bad thing to say about this series. 10 out of 10 br /

Picture quality is outstanding
The Planet earth series is an amazing collection of video footage that only the BBC seem to be able to capture in so much detail. br / br /5 Disc collection in HD DVD. br / br /The HD DVD is stunning, the best HD DVD I have seen, on this format and blu-ray, colour's are bright, water is crystal clear and close up details is stunning. br / br /Sound via Dolby Digital is very good, subtle enough to make you feel part of the wildness. br / br /A DVD worth every penny, it is education, enjoyable and amazing.

Superb value for money
This is a great set and superb value for money in HDDVD format. I especially appreciated the film about the snow leopard, it was very informative. Some of the filming is superb and it's great to see the BBC can still come up with new angles on an old subject. The great white shark leaping from the water after seals is awesome. br / br /At the price it's a bargain. br /

it is 1080p but the bbc box says 1080i
goodness knows what the bbc are playing at but they have labelled all their mini series ( bleak house, planet earth, 20,000 streets ) etc as 1080i on the box set when in fact it is full 1080p - I just checked it on my blu-ray/hd-dvd drive on my PC using Nero Showtime which gives you full technical details of all the dics you play and it is full 1080p on the four feature discs and the 5th bonus disc of features is 1080i. br /just which idiot decided to label it as this remains a mystery.
