Great product, lots of features and produces great sound.
My idea was simple, I wanted all my music to be portable and played on speakers with no wires.

After searching and searching I decided to a 6th generation 80gb ipod classic which i'm very impressed with and the Altec Lansing IM600 which ticks all the boxes.

The unit produces excellent sound and fills a room very well, the bass isn't too bad just dont expect a thumping rumble or anything.

It's portability is key to the design and my requirement, this is achieved through a rechargable battery which gives about 10 hours of use which i found very impressive. It also has a great design which allows the front foot to be folded into the body, the remote slides into the back which is then covered by the rear stabilising foot. This means a great level of portability.

The FM radio is a great bonus feature which is there due to ipods not having radios. You can have 6 presets which work on the remote.

It has a digital display to show battery charge status, volume and also which source is active i.e. ipod, FM or AUX.

The unit has a big glowing power button, volume up/down, skip next/previous track, source and SFX which adds extra depth to the sound. You also get a bunch of different plastic moulds to suit your specifc ipod and make the physical connection easier.

You will not find another ipod dock with all the features at this price, I know it doesnt work that well with the touch 2nd gen but for nanos, classic and so on it's great.

GOOD SOUND BUT DOCKING PROBLEMS AND ALARM NOT EASY TO USE
These speakers are almost very good but have some serious design/compatability problems. I was originally delighted with the speakers. I used them with the various ipods in my house without the supplied dock adaptors to save changing over adaptors and that seemed to work fine. After a couple of months I had problems playing any ipod because the dock connection wasn't good. To get a better connection I tried out one of the supplied adaptors and not only did it not work with my ipod but I couldn't get the adaptor out of the dock. Surely the point of having different adaptors is to change them easily to use with different ipods. There is a problem with using these for charging the ipod Touch anyway. Also the alarm function isn't very satisfactory. This is the first negative review I've ever written but I'm frustrated because I can't use them at all now and am sending them back.

Obsolete Product IM600
The iM600 is just as good a soundbox as described in other reviews BUT it is an obsolete model. I have confirmed with Altec Lansing direct that it has been replaced with the rather confusingly named iM600 USB. The latest model caters for ALL Ipod types currently on the market whereas the old stock that Amazon are selling off cheaply (iM600) does not support all Ipod types. The Ipod Touch (generation 2) for example, is only supported by the iM600 USB whilst the heavily discounted iM600 being sold on this website will NOT do what the Product Description says; namely...charge the Ipod Touch or allow Syncing to take place whilst on the docking station. I have contacted Amazon about their misleading product write up but all they suggest is that I contact Altec (despite the fact that I not only did so but I also told Amazon that I had done so!).

Do NOT buy this product, as your Ipod (or any upgraded Ipod you might purchase at a later date) will/may not work properly. Please RATE this comment to ensure that it reaches the top of the queue and that so that other buyers are warned about this product.

No iPhone Support
The sound quality seems good (as long as you adjust the iPhone/iPod volume sufficiently) but I think that it is worth pointing out that it doesn't fully work with an iPhone (the iPhone pops up a message saying as much).

You might expect some interference from time to time (I could have lived with that, or switched the iPhone to Airplane Mode to avoid it) but importantly for me it doesn't charge the iPhone's battery.

Playing music, skipping tracks, etc works, but charging does not. I've not tried using it as a dock connected via USB.

Thought it was worth trying to make this a bit more obvious to any future buyers.

Fantastic
Got this for Xmas and it is fantastic. Sounds quality is superb for general listening, and feels well made as well. Radio works well and the ipod fits in ok although this unit will not charge the i touch 2nd gen.

Been running on batteries for a while which gives it great portability around the house and outside.

Well worth the money and sounds far better than the other units of similar size at under £80 ish.
