Really not for me... but it may be for you
yup I've decided to write a review that everyone will just say is rubbish and will say wasn't helpful.

BUT while this album definitely was not for me, it is very likely most of Nightwish's old fans will like this.

The thing that I used to love about NW was the combination of heavy metal music and operatic vocals... but of course with the new vocalist they have taken this formula and thrown it out the window.
If you like Within Tempatation, you will probably love this album, it's very similar to their work only with more emphasis on the orchestra. I don't like within temptation... so I find this bland and unoriginal, more techniqucal than WT but I my opinion worse.

I only bought this due to my love of Marco, but if you want an album with his great vocals buy a Tarot album.

I'm off to buy Tarja's newest album now and hope that that still has operatic vocals on it ;)

In conclusion MOST NIGHTWISH FANS WILL LOVE THIS... but I just didn't, sadly I am no longer a fan... only a fan of the old band. And it is sad because the band brims with talent.

Oh F**K yeah
Honest to God I have heard so many people bitch about this album because it just isn't Nightwish..........

If you dont like it, listen to something else. In My personall opinion Nightwish have got quite a lot heavier (probably due to Marco Hietala) and this I think makes them better. Some of the songs have a slightly poppy, filler, sort of feel but many of them are awesome

Bye Bye Beautiful, incredible display of Marco's singing power and how well he and Anette work together.

7 Days to the Wolves another great song

Master Passion Greed - granted a little heavy for many of nightwish's following but if you like metal...you'll love it

If I lost this album I would definately buy it again

PEACE

Amazing - buy it!
Having never heard a Nightwish album before I didn't have the apprehension that existing fans would given that this is the first album without Tarja. However I don't think I would have anything to worry about as this is simply amazing. I am a long time fan of the brilliant Within Temptation and had been recommended Nightwish and they certainly don't disappoint. Annette's vocals are, IMO superb and are perfectly suited to Nightwish's metal/orchestral music.

The opening track, The Poet And The Pendulum, is an epic 14 minutes long and to me is the best. It has everything.... metal, rock, operatic, Riverdance style music, orchestral/choir and ends with a moving melodic ballad. Truly stunning.

I can honestly say I love every track (ok, possibly not Whoever Brings The Night) and the whole album improves with each listening.

I will never tire of this album!

Disappointed
Having heard the track "The Islander" I thought I would love this, even though Tarja's vocals would be missing from the album. I didn't. Annette's voice is not just different, it isn't particularly good - unless she hasn't been allowed to let it fly. The lyrical quality has been lost from all but the two folky tracks. Whether you like it will depend on what you liked about Nightwish before. If it was that great, soaring operatic, symphonic quality that gave us tracks such as Down with the Sun, then get Tarja's solo album "My Winter Storm". If it was the harder stuff, then probably you'll love it.

Amazing
This is one of the best albums I have ever listened to. Since I laid my hands on it, I could not stop listening to it. The album really gets better every time you listen to it. Every song is special, and The Islander is fantastic. The whole album works coherently to give something special, the lyrics, the music, and also the vocals, which for me did not fail to be really good with Nightwish's new singer. Cannot wait to see what Nightwish will come up with next, but if it is any where as good as this, then it will be a winner.
