pIn iPerfect Stranger/i, ace New York Courier reporter Rowena Price (Halle Berry) will do anything to get her story---even if it verges on the unethical. After her plans to out a US senator's homosexual relationship with an intern are thwarted, Price's next chance at a big scoop falls right into her lap. When her friend Grace (Nicky Lynn Aycox) is found murdered, the main suspect is revealed to be Harrison Hill (Bruce Willis), a philandering high-powered advertising exec with a very jealous wife./p pWith some help from her right-hand tech guru, Miles (Giovanni Ribisi), Rowena goes undercover as a temp at Hill's agency, where her own good looks are bound to draw Hill closer to her, taking her to the facts behind Grace's murder. No simple plot description can truly explain James Foley's (iAt Close Range/i) twisty, techy thriller. It begins with a false set-up, takes a whole other route, and makes a series of bizarre 11th hour revelations that not even the most seasoned viewer would predict. The always watchable Berry makes us root for a character whose methods aren't always the most scrupulous, and Giovanni Ribisi does a lot with the 'sidekick' role. Anastas Michos's cinematography gives Manhattan a slightly sinister glow of cool blue, appropriate to this tale in which nothing is what it seems, and trusting in someone is sure to cause regret---or worse. iPerfect Stranger/i may occasionally defy logic, but that is not likely to deter those hungering for a handsomely made, star-fuelled studio film with plenty of surprises./p

What a brilliant thriller with some fantastic acting!
I am one of these people who go out and pretty much buy every Bruce Willis film there is! br /When I saw the trailer for this film back in 07, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. br / br /There seem to be many reviews about of people slating this film, if you don't like thillers then don't buy it, (I was actually nearly put off by the reviews, but then read the decent ones and got it anyway - because of my love for Bruce) if you do and love a film that makes you think deep all the way through and then gives you an amazing ending, they I suggest you get it! br / br /The film is based around three characters who, throughout, you learn more and more about, finding out thrilling secrets and plots, then to top it off, you get one massive clever twist at the end. br / br /A clever film which entales three actors who do a fantastic job with their characters! br / br /Don't read ANY spoilers, go into this film and enjoy whats to come! br /

Far from perfect bog standard thriller with ridiculous twist ending .
I'll be honest. I would quite happily sit and watch Halle Berry, a feminine work of art , type for two hours . Which is really handy because for much of Perfect Strangers that ,s exactly what she does. Twinkling those perfect fingers over her computer keyboard as she tries to get to the truth of her estranged friends death which might , or might not have something to do with a big shot boss in the advertising industry. As with many thrillers these days you know there's a twist coming at the end. Sometimes these are so obvious they lose their impact. In Perfect Stranger the twist is so ridiculous it would make Leonard Cohen guffaw with incredulity and what's more it even more stupidly sets itself up for a sequel ....which is not going to happen . br /Berry plays Rowena, a hard-nosed investigative reporter who uncovers mendacious politicians up to no good through her New York Courier column, which she writes under a male pseudonym. When a story gets pulled because rich white guys generally buy their way out of these things, Rowena becomes hacked off and indignant and quits her job br /Then her ex-best friend Grace (Nicki Aycox) who had an affair with her ex-husband tells Rowena she has hooked up with top advertising boss Harrison Hill ( a miscast Bruce Willis) after meeting him on-line .Then she turns up dead. br /Rowena being investigative and all suspects something amiss so teaming up with tech wizard former colleague Miles( Giovanni Ribisi) who secretly has the hots for her( who wouldn't?) she decides to get to the bottom of things. Which means going undercover as a temp at the firm Hill is boss of. Much shenanigans involving e-mails, computers and instant messaging ensue. And the film , intriguing up to now loses it's way. br /Firstly there are the flashbacks Rowena has which allude to something to do with her father and the young Grace .Though they rather ridiculously do have something to do with the narrative they are merely an annoying sop to set up the twist and jump in randomly like scenes spliced in from an altogether different film. Characters tumble on things in ridiculously contrived circumstances .Lazy writing ....bit like that last sentence. br /Director James Foley has the brilliant Glengarry Glen Ross [1992] on his C.V. and clearly wanted a twisted sexually charged thriller like Sea Of Love [1990] or Basic Instinct - 10th Annivesary Special Edition [1992] on it as well. Instead he has ended up with a fairly watchable but generic , limp and overly contrived dud. And the talented Berry gets another clinker on hers. She deserves better.... but then so do we. br / br / br /

Embarrassingly bad
Perfect Stranger is a shockingly poor thriller made in a similar vein to films like Basic Instinct and Disclosure. It is supposed to be an erotic thriller, but fails on both levels. The "erotic" scenes are naff and fail to shock, and as a thriller it is let down by a really poor script. br /The cast is A list (Bruce Willis, Halle Berry, Giovani Ribisi) but with such cheesy lines to deliver they all end up looking like poor B movie actors. br /On the plus side the film looks good. There's no stupid camera angles and the running time is under 2 hours, but the script is so poor and the shock twist at the end is just plain daft and an insult to the viewer. I get the feeling that when the idea was pitched to the film studio it would have sounded pretty good, the twist at the end being the main selling point. But, having commissioned the movie, the studio then paid someone a bag of peanuts to write the script. This is one of those annoying thrillers with absolutely no subtlety whatsoever. Characters consistently act "suspiciously" and have "dirty secrets" that are designed in a ham fisted way to convince the viewer that they might be the killer. It's because of this that the twist at the end feels so insulting instead of jaw droppingly clever which it could have been. I can imagine Willis, Berry and Ribisi watching the movie and thinking "This isn't what I signed up for". But they won't feel half as cheated as the public who paid to watch it. Very disappointing. And boring too.

Decent plot with a nice twist
I don't want to spoil anyone's enjoyment so I won't divulge much of the plot except to say that the final 15 minutes makes a slow build up worth sitting through. br /However, the acting from Halle Berry Bruce Willis is well below par the film would probably have benefitted from actors with more depth range to their talent; having said that, Giovanni Ribisi's performance is good so all was not lost. br / br /So, if you're looking for a film to pass a couple of hours then this may do the trick but if you'd like something deeper, choose something else.

Far from perfect
A slow moving and boring film with the contrived and unbelievable plot typical of so many of these third rate Hollywood so-called "thrillers". To wake up the audience in case interest flags (as it inevitably will) there are numerous shots of Berry in ridiculously tight clothes. As in many of these films the dialogue is practically unintelligible. Giovanni Ribisi is usually an excellent actor but not in this film - his whining and often incomprehensible voice are extremely irritating. I did quite like the external photography and the colours and lighting of the buildings otherwise this film was a waste of time and rental fee - I should have watched that Poirot repeat instead.
