An Anime Masterpiece
From beginning to end i loved this series, its one of my favourites and for good reason. It combines all out action, an epic storyline, a fantastic cast, enveloping characters and a good sense of humour.

Episodes varied in style and whilst some were genuinely heart-breaking others were poignant and optimistic. The comedy in this anime is also a highlight, its a fitting touch and is done just right.

I would defy anyone not to enjoy this series and would reccomend anyone with the slightest interest in anime to buy Samurai Champloo and prove me wrong. Its an adventure through like no other and one i will always watch, again and again.

Entertaining anime
I would personally rate Samurai Champloo as one of my favourite anime series, along with Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell. As ever the series format allows for greater character development that a standard length film cannot hope to match.

Sharp like the edge of a samurai sword...
First, just thought I'd better comment on the first review: I hated Ninja Scroll, too much random porn for my liking. Samurai Champloo is, in my opinion, better for action AND isn't so graphic you'll feel embarrassed watching it.

Ninja Scroll comparisons aside, Samurai Champloo is undeniably awesome. Jin, Mugen and Fuu are well thought-out characters, not your one-dimensional heroes at all. The drawing and animation are beautiful without being showy (no CGI here), and the soundtrack is in an amazingly anachronistic hip-hop based style. The storyline is great, and the side-stories which make up most of the series are by turns funny, thought-provoking, gripping and thoroughly enjoyable. To cap it off, the fight scenes are incredible, with Mugen and Jin's contrasting styles creating something slightly different from most samurai anime.

So, great soundtrack, drawing, animation, characters, storyline (and sub-plots), swordplay, humour, and the occasional thought-provoking scene. I couldn't recommend this more!

first class action and storylines
Had the mis-fortune of buying Samurai X previously and was a little hesitant to purchase this especially as there were no previous reviews. I needn't have worried the first disc is full of samurai sword action and is reminiscent of some of the action scenes in Ninja Scroll. The remaining disc's do not have the same level of action but are better than the entire Samurai X series put together. The action is not the only reason for purchasing this series, the storylines are thought provoking (some tales more than others) in a Samurai/Zen type way if thats your thing. If you're new to the genre you'd do worse than to get Ninja Scroll to test the waters prior to shelling out for the whole of the Samurai Champloo series. If you're not new to the genre and you haven't got this series what are you waiting for.
