Wholegrain rice comes out hard and uncooked
I bought this because of the raving reviews, and what a mistake that was. I cooked some wholegrain rice, and followed the rice cooker's instructions for wholegrain rice to the letter. The rice cooker finished and the rice was hard and uncooked. br / br /This thing is just like an expensive saucepan - it makes no sense to purchase it. The rice cooker just boils water and switches off after 15 minutes. How is that any different to setting a timer on the hob for 15 minutes? No wonder my rice was undercooked. br / br /Expensive mistake. Please, unless you eat only white rice, do not buy this!

The best rice cooker I've had
This is the third rice cooker I've had over the last 10 years, and it is by far the best. I have had it for five months and I use it two or three times per week, and it has always produced perfect rice. br / br /My last one was a cheap model and sometimes switched off too early, leaving me with undercooked rice sitting in a pool of water, so I decided to spend a little more to get the Tefal 4 in 1 and it has been worth the extra money. br / br /The non-stick bowl prevents rice sticking to the bottom and it is easy to clean. The machine makes a series of beeps when cooking is complete that can be heard from the next room. Cheaper models just make a mechanical clunk when they switch from the "cook" to the "warm" setting that can only be heard if you are standing in the kitchen at the time. br / br /A minor niggle is that it is difficult to tell whether it is cooking. Most models have a glass lid so you can see what's happening, and their lids often rattle during cooking, but the 4 in 1 has a tight fitting solid lid, and the display just says "00" during rice cooking (it counts down the cooking time in the other modes). br / br /I have tried making porridge and the results have been great - I now have porridge for breakfast about once per week. It is effortless and only takes a few minutes. br / br /I have only used the slow cooker once and I wasn't very impressed with the result. I don't normally use slow cookers, so it might have been my technique or recipe that was at fault. I haven't used the vegetable steaming mode. br / br / br / br /

Excellent as rice cooker and slow cooker. Have not used it as a steamer.

Fantastic!
This has been one of the best purchases I've ever made- it's great value for money, a nice quality appliance and very easy to use. I am a student and the slow cooking function is great for when I want to come in from lectures to something warm. Meat becomes incredibly tender after only a few hours and it cooks rice perfectly (thanks to the handy rice-cooking guide included). The porridge function is also very handy. br / br /My only criticism would be that when you open the lid, the steam runs down the lid into a groove which is then quite hard to clean, but apart from that I can't fault this cooker. br / br /The parts are all easy to clean, it looks good, it holds a LOT of food and I can't imagine cooking stews or rice without it now!

Tefal 4 in 1 rice cooker, best gadget in the kitchen
I bought the Tefal 4 in 1 rice cooker to replace a 3 in 1 model that I had used at least once a week for two years. That one was still working but the bowl warped, and to replace it was going to be £27, so I decided to get a new one. br / br /The cooker makes perfect rice every time, I also use it to make rice complete meals on the rice cooker function. I think it is a large capacity, you can make enough rice for a family meal with visitors. br / br /I cook wholegrain rice, which takes longer as it does by any method but this is the best way of cooking it I have ever used, I add two cups of rice, 4 cups of water, a generous pinch of salt, drop of sunflower oil and set it to cook. br / br /The lid locks down sealing the food in, but there is a steam vent on the lid, there is a drip catcher on the back and you really need this once you open the lid. br / br /You do get quite a lot of steam once it gets going so it is advisable to sit it under the extractor fan, but not leave it sitting under cupboards which could ruin the "wood". br / br /You shouldn't really open the lid to add ingredients once it starts cooking, as it upsets the cooker which detects when the food is cooked. br / br / Once cooking is finished the cooker switches to the keep warm function, and the orange light comes on. br / br /I haven't used the slow cooker function, and have only used the steamer in the old model, in fact if you are cooking rice and don't want to mix your fish in with it you can just put the steamer tray in after filling with rice and water, and cook and steam at the same time. br / br /The cooker comes with a recipe suggestion book, which has recipes for all the functions and there are plenty more recipes out there on the web or recipe books to buy, just make sure it is suitable for this type of rice/slow cooker, steamer. br / br /I don't think I will ever use the porridge function which is the 4th addition to the functions, I might try the slow cooker one day though. br / br /I bought mine before Christmas, but this one was a Christmas present for my parents and despite early misgivings by my father he is now impressed with the rice, especially the wholegrain brown basamati I gave them with the cooker.
