Form over function !
Having owned the previous glass model of kettle (an early model without the dropping off handle problem) which recently died, I eagerly awaited the arrival into stock of this model. Now I am using it I don't think I have been so disappointed with any product.
Yes it does boil water but the lid has to be pulled open with quite some force owing to the nature of the catch arrangement and I doubt if the hinge will last due to the shock loading in opening the lid. Filling through the spout is not an option either as the location of the filter forces the water back out. Once boiled which it does quickly, it takes a long time to automatically switch off. Pouring is dreadful as owing to the design (if any design did go in to it) of the wide and shallow spout the boiling water goes everywhere.
If you want a cup of boiling water save your money, you can get one from far better £5.00 kettles.
If you want a good looking "designer" kettle and a cup of boiling water buy this one for show and a £5.00 kettle.

The kettle is a good looking retard. It doesn't pour, it drools.
It seems that Russell Hobbs is very focused on making their stuff look good, and yet they're not too bothered about whether it works well.

As the previous reviewer stated, the kettle pours badly. I've never had to think about pouring a kettle before, but with this thing you have to be careful because of the strange spout.

and despite it being rapid boil it seems reluctant to stop boiling the water. I can clearly see the water boiling away and yet the kettle continues boiling it for a further 15 seconds. I usually just end up switching it off the moment I see the water boiling. I suppose this is the trouble with devices that have glass sides, we can see them working badly.

Over-priced? - Perhaps
Russell Hobbs 13421-40 3kw Glass Kettle with 1.7 ltr capacity, LED lights and Oust Descaler

I bought this kettle 10 months ago because the design of it appealed to me. You do have to be careful when pouring from the kettle as the water can overspill from the external rim.

I have also bought the matching 4-slice toaster and the panini maker but have not, so far, experienced any problems with any of them.

Don't be fooled by the stylish looks!
Bought this kettle last year along with the very stylish matching toaster. Cost me £110 for both items (bought elsewhere), after 6 months the toaster packed up and I got a replacement. Now 13 months old (typical) the kettle has packed up! Now I don't know about other people but £59.99 for a kettle lasting 13 months to me is a disgrace to Russell Hobbs. Won't be buying a matching replacement this time. Russell Hobbs have fleeced enough money out of me and the kettle was never great, lid stuck every time on opening and closing. I have rated it 2 stars for its looks only.
