This is really good product; especially for people like me who like drag and drop rather than restriction of desktop software.

I am not however not impressed by earphones; they reduce quality of sound.

Doesn't do what it says
The player is nice and compact, however It states it is compatible with windows xp (pack 2 or above) I have pack 3. It did not recognise my operating system. The volume control is limited and sometimes not loud enough. The shuffle feature is limited to approximately 10 tracks. I was quite disappointed with this product and returned it to Pixmania / amazon, within their 30 day return option., that was nearly two weeks ago and I still have not heard anything. Bit disappointed with the whole experience really

Quality product, easy to use
I needed a replacement for my old and low capacity Philips MP3 player. I chose the Sony as I've always been impressed with the quality of their gear. I have to say I've not been disappointed.

Sound quality is very good once you've junked the 'phones that come with it. I bought a pair of Sennheisers which improved the richness of sound and comfort. This combined with the equaliser feature on the player means I can tailor the sound to the type of music I'm listening too. The range of adjustment is really impressive.

Battery life has not been a problem. Normally I'm transferring a disc once a week which seems to keep the charge up. On a weeks holiday I still had 3/4 left at the end. I recommend the plug in charger offer to make life easier.

I've had no problems using the various menu functions and I can't see anyone who's used modern electronic equipment having a problem either. The drag-and-drop transfer feature is as simple as it gets and, being a manual feature, means you are in control of what is happening not the software.

The only little gripes I've got are; (1)data transfer from PC is very slow, (2)to preserve the battery the screen blanks a bit quick which is a pain when 'surfing', (3)there's no clip and although there is a loop for a strap none was supplied (with mine anyway), (4)the 'phones are poor quality in an otherwise quality product, (5)the shuffle feature seems to use the same random sequence every time (although I've not used it much).

Think carefully if you have Windows Vista
I bought the NWD-105 from amazon, as I liked the drag and drop idea, and it appeared to be really user freindly. On receiving the player this couldn't be further from the truth.
It refused point blank to allow drag and drop to work, and Vista wouldn't entertain the auto transfer software. I tried it through the media player, which was the only system on my computer which recognised it as a "walkman" and allowed drag and drop to work, but when trying to access the tracks on the NWD-105 it would find the track , no problem, then on pressing play showed the message "file not found". After trying this several times I spoke to Sony support(?), and sent several e-mails and they have proved to be as useful as stabilisers on a fish! They haven't even bothered to reply to my original e-mail as yet.
Can't fault Amazon though, fast delivery and best of all they've taken the damn thing back, and I've bought a Phillips MP3 player which is 100% better than the Sony, and I know there customer support will do just that if required.

Ditch the headphones if you want this to shine!

I bought this for my sister-in-law for her very first mp3 player. I wanted something she'd find easy to use, with no complicated software or anything which might put her off. It can't get easier than drag and drop. Because she had no idea what to do, I had it delivered here, loaded it up with music for her to test, and then posted it to Canada. But I tried it for myself before sending it.

For a start, the supplied headphones are fine if you have elephant ears.

They were waaaay too big for me AND my other half, and consequently I couldn't get them to fit, and could barely hear any volume. I switched the phones to a pair of Denon C700's, and the volume was much better. I had enough volume at 25/30 and the sound quality was hugely improved once I'd switched over.

The user interface is basic but detailed. All the settings are accessed from the home menu. Searching is easy, album/artist/genre/year, and although the screen is tiny, it's still very bright and visible.

The middle of the player houses the 4-way D pad and it's very easy to change tracks or pause etc, while the player is in your pocket.

It has 5 preset EQ settings and 2 custom user settings. I think it sounded best when all the settings were off, but there's enough customisation there to get the sound you want. It has a lovely warm and full sound, great with vocals and acoustic music. And the bass is deep and tight, not anaemic like some other players. There's no harshness or distortion at all. It has the sound quality of a much bigger player but in a much more portable package.

In the end, my sister-in-law bought a Sansa Disk player and sold the Sony because she felt it wasn't loud enough.

I'd recommend this for the gym, or as a great little back up player, since it seems designed more for casual use than as part of a high-end portable system.

PROS:
*Great sound
*Colour screen
*Easy to use
*Extremely light and portable

CONS:
*Volume could be an issue for some.
*Poor battery life for a Sony. Around 9 hours!
*AUTO SYNC: Disable it unless you want it to sync EVERYTHING in your music library.

If you like the idea of syncing, then make a dedicated folder for the music you want to transfer, and drag your albums from the music folder to the new folder. Set the Sony to sync only with that folder.

It's a decent little player, but loses out on battery life. Sony players tend to have 30+, so less than 10 seems a step backwards. But for the gym, it would be perfect. Think about what you need from a player before deciding which one to buy. Shorter battery life might not be a problem for gym use.
