Adolescence is an emotionally stormy time for kids, but it's especially so for Shane (Josh Hutcherson), a teenager being raised by single firefighter father Connor (Bruce Greenwood). Add the recent death of Shane's fire-captain uncle (Connor's brother) in the line of duty and the pending closure of their neighbourhood "Dogpatch" fire station, and both Shane's propensity for skipping school and brooding in his room and his father's obsession with work seem easy to explain. When a mutt called Dewey, really a very spoiled superstar dog named Rexxx who's been presumed dead after a parachuting stunt went wrong, turns up in a burning building and is rescued by the Dogpatch crew, Connor puts Shane in charge of caring for the dog and finding its owner. p/pShane and Dewey clash immediately and Shane is extremely resentful toward both the dog and his father. However, Dewey's special talents (like skateboarding and trampoline jumping), combined with his good fire-fighting instincts, soon win the admiration and affection of Shane and the entire Dogpatch crew. A series of mysterious fires really causes Shane and Connor to begin to communicate and reconnect, but those fires also threaten their very lives. At the same time, Dewey's former owner discovers Dewey's true identity and demands the return of his superstar companion. An engaging dog story that explores the difficulties of growing up and dealing with personal tragedy, iFirehouse Dog/i is a fun family film that's rated PG due to some mildly crude humour, language, and action peril. i--Tami Horiuchi/i

Great kids entertainment
Bought this for my daughter's birthday party and it kept them quite for all 107 minutes - need I say more! I just happened to glance at it and ended up watching and enjoying it too, so its appeal is not just for kids. It has a PG rating, so not for the youngest children, but is cleverly scripted to appeal to a wide audience and play on their emotions; happy, sad, funny, silly. Overall, a must watch and I highly recommend.

Great feelgood movie
Having owned an Irish Terrier for almost 15 years I found this movie great entertainment (although admittedly a little corney in places). Great for all the family.

dog gone superb.
if you have got kids do yourself a favour and buy them this film ,its very original ,very funny and sentimental all in one . i am 40 and bought it for my niece but we both loved it and i will put this amongst the best animal based films that i have ever seen and the humans are great too .even the rest of our family thinks its superb !most definatly a 5 star family film.

Firehouse Dog
I thought this movie was very very funny! I am middle aged and I watched it with my 9 year old nephew and we laughed and laughed at the antics of Rex the Dog. I am not into soppy Hollywood animal stories but this movie was an exception. The Characters in the movie were all funny particularly the boy who adopts Rex. This is a real feel good movie, and the dog out acts the actors in the comedy stakes. The whole thing is good to watch whether your an adult or a child.
