Disappointing
I was given this player as a Christmas present (not from Amazon). I bought a gold HDMI cable and away I went. The first problem I encountered was that the player would not recognise that there was a disc in the player, this was followed by a prompt stating the disc was unplayable. After much perseverance I eventually managed to watch the Dark Knight and was amazed at the clarity and sound of the Blu Ray experience. Thinking that the glitches were just teething problems I then sat down to watch I am Legend, once again failure to acknowledge the disc followed by more prompts stating the disc was unplayable produced much frustration and bad language, but eventually managed to watch the film, again sound and picture quality was outstanding. br /Attempt number three was Hellboy 2, more of the same, only this time the film refused to play at all. I then performed the Firmware update, which was not the quick and easy process as described by other users, but it did play the film, eventually! br /Finally, I attempted to watch Apacolypto, same thing again, no disc followed by this disc cannot be played prompts. At this point I thought enough is enough and have sent the player back for a replacement. br /I am hoping the the new player conforms to the previous comments.

I recieved this player today, the download and set up was easy, hooked it up to my 40 inch sumsung picture was fantastic, connected it up to a yamaha amp sound was awesome full surround sound DTS all worked. br /This machine is great it looks good and works well every function works including the remote and buttons. The adaptor for the plug is easy to fit just push it on and do up one screw. br / If you are thinking of buying one of these machines take my word for it and BUY IT before you are to late for £200 you cant go wrong. br / The service from the pixmania was good hassle free and delivery was quick. br /

excellent blue-ray player
just connected this blue-ray to my toshiba 1080p lcd tv it worked straight out of the box the picture and sound quality is excellent it looks great to with its black gloss looks at this price what a bargain get one

An excellent player, marred by a problematic remote
While I'd agree with all the other reviewers - this is an excellent introduction to blu-ray, surely I can't be the only person having problems with the remote control? The dead giveaway that its a fault known by Samsung, is that its listed as the first item in the troubleshooting section - "No operations can be performed with the remote control". Basically, from time to time the machine just doesn't respond to the remote control. It appears to be an issue with the remote itself (and its not battery-related). The instructions in the manual work, but I've now had to reset my remote 4 times in less than a week of ownership. This involved pulling the batteries out of the remote and then holding any button down for several minutes to reset the microprocessor. If you're planning to watch a movie, you have to factor in the remote reset before you start (since the player itself doesn't have sufficient buttons to select from on-screen menus to start a movie playing - I had 10 minutes of Spiderman 1's intro sequence the other day swapping batteries in and out before I could get the remote to work to start the movie). The remote does transmit something, its just not something the player responds to until the remote gets reset. br /Samsung, if you're listening - any chance you could spend more than 5 minutes designing a remote that works all of the time?

this is a good player, as soon as it come i updated it to the new firmware. br /ive not noticed the player glitch yet.
