Disney's 1967 animated feature IThe Jungle Book/I seems even more entertaining now than it did upon first release, with a hall-of-fame vocal performance by Phil Harris as Baloo, the genial bear friend of feral child Mowgli. Loosely based on Rudyard Kipling's original, the film goes its own way as Disney animation will, but the strong characters and smart casting (George Sanders as the villainous tiger, Shere Khan) make it one of the studio's stronger feature-length cartoons. One of the very best animated films that the Walt Disney Studio has ever released (and the last to be produced by Walt Disney himself), and as downright brilliant as it was on its debut in 1967, IThe Jungle Book/I makes a very welcome return to DVD in this excellent 40th anniversary double-disc set. P Based loosely on the Rudyard Kipling’s book of the same name, the film tells the story of man-cub Mowgli, and the friends he makes in the jungle. And it’s these friends who ignite the film, with some of the most memorable characters and songs that Disney has ever put on the screen. Kings of IThe Jungle Book/I are the likes of Baloo the Bear, King Louie the villainous Shere Khan the Tiger, while supporting characters such as Colonel Hathi are just as memorable. It’s astonishing that it packs so much and so many into its relatively short running time. P It’s an amazing achievement too that IThe Jungle Book/I bristles with such energy and fun, and that it’s just as likely to enthral the current generation of youngsters as well as those of us who saw it first time round. And when those songs start playing--from Bare Necessities through to I Wanna Be Like You--it'll take some effort to not start tapping your feet. I wanna be like you!!
The Jungle Book is good clean family entertainment. Unlike many Disney films, this is just a story, there is no great underlying message, no fight between good and evil; just a young child trying to get back to his family with the help of his friends. It's a real feel good film which can be enjoyed by all the family. I think this has the best soundtrack of any of the Disney films and I still know all the songs word for word! br / br /With many films you can guarantee that the books will be better - this is just not true with Disney, I've tried to read the Jungle Book and lost interest very quickly, whereas I could watch the film again and again. br /

The best and the most fun Disney cartoon of all time.
This is one of the first films I can remember seeing when I was a little boy. The last film to receive Walt Disney's personal touch. I must have seen the Jungle Book at least ten times now and I still really enjoy watching it. It's better then the Lion King or Bambi as it is more fun and has better songs overall. Great bonuus features for kids and adults. It's been a long wait for the Jungle Book on dvd but worth it, they have done it proud. br / br /

Fantastic bonding for old and young
My 21-month-old son loves to sit and watch this with me (even on his own. He loved songs and characters; and I think this proves the Jungle book is truly a timeless classic. We haven't even begun to start on the interactive games and so I think this will be a DVD that will get many years of pleasure a lot of. br / br / It is a simple story with a simple narrative. While it is sometimes in danger of becoming repetitive (quote you got to leave the jungle" "I don't want to leave the jungle want to leave the jungle "you've got to leave the jungle") the songs and characters hold it together, and the Time goes very quickly; watching it seems that only half an hour, and suddenly we're late for bed. br / br /This is a "must buy"
