The Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock is fantastic. I have been using it everyday for the last two weeks. Although the function is fairly simple it works well. I hate mornings and I don't particularly like winter so I was keen to give this a try. It basically slowly wakes you up by increasing the light intensity over a 30 minute period, this works really well. The light itself is very powerful, you can alter the settings to any intensity you want. I picked the highest so that at the end of the 30 minutes it is like having sunlight streaming through the window.

I used to wake up with a jolt to my mobile phone alarm but the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock really allows you to wake up naturally and slowly. I’ve been using the alarm beep setting during the week just to make absolutely sure I catch my train; I have tried all the alarms, beeping, radio, running water and dawn chorus (which is my favourite). The birds start of imperceptibly and increase in sound so you wake to sunshine and birds - very nice. The biggest thing for me is that by the time you wake up and are conscious you don't feel like rolling over and going straight back to sleep again you are awake enough to get straight out of bed.

You can use the light on its own as a bed side light. You can select both light intensity easily and also loudness of sound. Setting the alarm is also very easy, in fact the whole operation is very simple, you could easily dispense with the instruction manual and just use the quick start guide that comes separately. And should you still need to you can snooze the Philips Wake-Up Light Alarm Clock too (although I haven’t needed this option). --Jeremy Paterson, Amazon.co.uk

Replacement bulbs no longer available.
Mine arrived with a dead bulb - I looked for a replacement, but found that Philips no longer make them. It needs Philips Softone 100W, E27 (screw cap), T55 bulbs. It turns out that Philips only make the bayonet version of that bulb nowadays.

I'm not going to comment on the function of the device as a whole, because mine only arrived today - but I was very annoyed and wouldn't have bought one if I'd known.

love it and hate it
I love the idea of waking up slowly, especially in the winter, and having light in the morning. Generally the Wake up light does as it promises and is wonderful. However, there is one problem I have had and that is that SOMETIMES, it flashes brightly when it is supposed to be just starting the "sunrise" (ie half and hour before I am meant to get up) And the flashing is bright and very disturbing. I returned the first lamp within weeks of buying it, and was given a replacement but I have found the replacement does the same thing...about once a month it wakes me from a deep sleep flashing. Very irritating. The only other complaint I have is that the radio alarm function always starts with a few seconds of static, then finds the station and plays music.

Fresh as a daisy
As I am a sun person it is very difficult for me to get up every morning when it is still dark. I have been given this clock and I can't be woken up more gently by a machine than this. It feels so refreshing and usually I even wake up just before the birds sing or the noise of the ocean, you can even tune to you favourite radio station. Brilliant, will recommend it definitely. However I might have one comment, how to bring this product to perfection. As the bird singing and frogs repeat itself in short periods I would be happy to download my own bird songs, so when I hear black birds, whilst on a walk I wouldn't have to think that i'm followed by my alarm clock. :) Well still, it's miles better that my grandma's old winding alarm clock, which gave me every morning a heartattack. Enjoy fresh mornings

great to wake up to but niggling issues
great to wake up to when it's dark in the morning - but feels a bit cheapish - biggest probelm though is that when the light's on you can't read the clock because it's not bright enough - so in the morning it's a bit awkward knowing what the time is

Brilliant!
I researched various 'wake up' lights prior to purchasing this one, and finally decided to go with Philips on a recommendation of a friend. I'm not disappointed! I've always found it hard to get up in the morning, and I really don't know how I managed without this light. The only small criticism I have is that the digital display is quite bright, and I found this hindered me dropping off to sleep, so I keep the small adhesive cover on it all the time, as I don't need to see the time. I love this wake up light, and have recommended it to all my friends.
