Wonderful unknown 60's soul
Only got this cd because it appeared in my Amazon recommendations. Despite being a great American popular 60's music fan, since starting collecting 'records'in that time, I hadn't heard of Derek Martin, but I have loved much other material produced by Teddy Randazzo.
I have just played this cd for the first time - WOW!!! It's been put straight back on again and I've been moved to make my first review for you.
It has brought back such wonderful memories of that era - when I had to trust a reviewer to find music which was rarely if ever played or even released in this country.
Great singing backed by REAL instruments with lovely arrangements.
Put's today's so called 'soul' music to shame.
Thanks Amazon for your helpful recommendations and your customers reviews

Derek Martin - The Roulette Recordings
This CD is an absolute must for Northern Soul fans. To think that most of these tracks have never been released before and commanded upto £1500 for an unreleased acetate. This is a bargain with Amazon at £6.99. Noteable tracks are 10, "I Can't Take It No More", 11, "Baby What Changed Your Mind" 15 "What Greater Love", 16 "On A Magic Carpet Ride", 17 "Grow Grow Grow" 18 "Just One More Time" (particularly the richness of Derek's voice, unbelievable) 19 "Flashback" 21 "Where There's Smoke There's Fire. An absolute gem. 25 tracks, something for everybody who's into soul music.

Derek Martin & Teddy Randazzo at their best!
This CD brings together many, but not all, of Derek Martin's releases from the 60's and early 70's.
Complementing Derek Martin's majestically soulful vocals are the equally majestic, elegant and sophisticated writing, arranging and production skills of Teddy Randazzo. Teddy Randazzo was the man behind the hits of Little Anthony & The Imperials, The Royalettes and Timi Yuro amongst others. Composing, arranging and producing classics such as - "Goin' Out Of My Head", "Hurt So Bad", "It's Gonna Take A Miracle" and Derek Martin's own "You Better Go", which is the opening track here.
Along with Derek Martin's subsequent releases on Roulette Records, and Randazzo's own Buttercup Records labels, there are a slew of unreleased tracks here, once again co-written and produced by Randazzo. Some of the tracks will be familiar to fans familiar with Randazzo's work, as they were also recorded by other artists who were produced by Randazzo.
This CD is a wonderful testament to the skills of both Derek Martin & Teddy Randazzo and is highly recommended to anyone interested in sophisticated soul!!
