Great set
Bought this in December and a great Bluray it is. Got wired to a Sony 40Z4500 and the picture and sound is great. Only issue is i thought it was multiregion when i bought it. Blu Rays come in Region A B think B is the UK. Got some region 1 DVDs and thought this would play. Not sure how to access the multiregion. br / br /Apart from that this is a great start up and Intro into the Blu Ray spectrum im sure you wont be disappointed.

Well done to Sonys customer services.
I was pleased with this player untill I updated the firmware from the Sony site to ver0440 it has stopped working after watching one dvd. keeps coming up with "can't play disc" I got in contact with sonys Customer service, and they give me an address and number for a sony service centre near me. Went and found out it was not the firmware after all. It was the BluRays Driver that had gone within a short time after updating the firmware, and it was going to cost over £200 to sort out. But this is were I got a suprise, Sony said they would cover the cost as a 'gesture of good will; with it been only a few days out of warranty. br /So well done to Sony. br /Only give it a one star for it going wrong in such a short time, four stars for pic quality/sound, and five stars for sonys customer services.

Cheap, great name, looks nice, but sooooooooooooo slow...
The gist is that I needed to buy an additional bluray player and thought what better machine to buy than a Sony bluray player! I mean how can you go wrong with buying a player made by the very people behind bluray! The amazingly cheap price (under £155), brand new, not bad looking, and it was, as I had mentioned, made by Sony - the company behind PS3 of all machines! br / br /But what went wrong? Well it all fell apart as soon as I had turned the machine on. Literally turning the damn thing and waiting for it to turn on actually took minutes as oppose to seconds with my PS3, my many standard dvd players, including my HD-dvd player! But I shrugged it off thinking that that was it. But little did realise that that was not it! br / br /Waiting for the disc tray to open (after pressing the button), waiting for the player to actually load the movie (after pressing the button), waiting for the machine to actually play the movie (after pressing the button), waiting for any action to take place (after pressing the button) took minutes! br / br /Okay your thinking that, 'its only minutes???' - but try waiting for your disc tray or your movie to actually play in 2-3 minutes after pushing the button to play it (remote control or the actual button on the machine!), and you'll know that that is literally a life-time in today's technological standards! br / br /The bottom line is that if your willing to sacrifice speed for price, name and design then go ahead and purchase this little gem. But, if you are someone who does get impatient at times, who wants things to happen now, and who does not like having to wait around for things to load, then please do not buy this machine! You are better off paying a bit extra for a PS3 machine which is by far THE best affordable bluray player on the market!

No PIP but who cares ?
I've owned this player for almost a year and there's nothing wrong with it. However Blu-Ray has now moved on to include Picture-In-Picture DVD commentaries. This player does not have the necessary hardware to show Picture-In-Picture. So if you want PIP then you want the more recent Sony BDP-S350 which is currently the same price. Though I believe you need to buy a memory upgrade for the BDP-S350 for PIP to work. br / br /Also be aware that the 4 Free DVD Offer that is currently showing expired in August 2008. br / br /Where this player scores one up on the BDP-S350 is that it has 6 separate multi-channel analogue outs, for those of us with analogue inputs on our amplifiers. There is also an additional 2 analogue outs Left / Right for TV connection if your TV has a DVI connection and not a HDMI connection. br / br /The player itself is built to last and it's so big that my amp happily sits on top of it.

Is HD All That Good ?
This player did really well upscaling my DVD's but the leap from that to HD films on Blu Ray wasn't so big. br /We watched the standard Matrix and then a Blu Ray I robot and couldn't really see any difference. br /Maybe this is a comment on Blu Ray or I Robot rather than the Sony player, I haven't watched enough HD stuff to confirm my findings.
