If Only They still Made Albums Like These...
BGO do it again! Two long out of circulation albums back again sounding better than ever before and with good informative notes as well. There are also some superb bonus tracks.

I really do like both of these albums very much indeed and I'm really glad to have them back in my collection. They are, however, not quite my favourites of Dame Shirley. It's nothing to do with the performances although I find myself agreeing with the note writer that "Over the Rainbow" misses the innocence that we tend to associate with this song. Not every song on "You Take My Heart Away" is of the quality we found on Dame Shirley's earlier United Artists albums. This album is very good but doesn't quite scale the heights of her very best work.

These very slight reservations don't stop these albums being very welcome additions to my collection.

Excellent remastering.......Bravo!
Every time BGO releases a Shirley Bassey recording from her back catalog, it is an event. That's because it is like listening to the recording for the very first time. My vinyl copy of "You Take My Heart Away" was quite unbearable as it was too sibilant. The album "Yesterdays" was my least favourite Bassey album as it sounded harsh on my system and the Dame appeared to be belting insensitively. However all this has changed with the new CD."You Take My Heart Away" sounds just right and the Dame appears to be nuanced on "Yesterdays" sounding expressive rather than strident. Well done BGO again! Can't wait for the next twofer "Live At The Talk Of The Town"/"Live At The Pigalle".

Excellent release !
Another brilliant release from BGO..Sound quality is great..theres so much more detail than in the original vinyl release..(vinyl sound quality declined from the mid 70's on )..the Yesterdays album in particular sounds much more accomplished and polished..Artwork and liner notes are first rate too !

Vintage Bassey at her Belting Best
Dame Shirley has proved she is the most captivating female artist of all time - her recent glory at Glastonbury, the awesome Get the party started album and Diva-defining The Living Tree all add up to a performer still at the very top of her game after more than 50 years in the business.

This double CD is long overdue and comprises two of Shirley's last albums recorded with United Artists:
You take my heart away is simply 70's sublime - a collection of 'pop' songs from the 70's kicks of with the title track using the Rocky title theme - one of her best vocals. Shirley's voice is flawless throughout this recording sometimes mellow, sometimes strong, always affecting. Just listen to the song Sometimes and I dare you not to have tears in your eyes.
The other CD comprises Shirley's most underrated album - Yesterdays. A collection of great standards, masterfully orchestrated by Arthur Greenslade. Again Shirley's voice is in fine form - and many recordings on this CD have been unavailable on CD before now.
Some extra tracks too (Razzle dazzle and Tomorrow morning - from the You take my heart away sessions and superb recordings of Nature boy and My man from the Yestredays sessions. Strangely Secret love is also included which actually dates from 1965, but is a welcome addition nonetheless).

These BGO releases are superbly remastered and a must-buy not only for Bassey fans but for fans of quality music.

The four following releases would complete the Bassey back catalogue, and hopefully BGO won't keep us waiting long:
Live in Japan 74 and 77
This is my life/Does anybody miss me
Stops the shows/12 of those songs
Live at the Pigalle/Live at Talk of the town

2 Cd set! Great Songs of the Seventies/The Great American Songbook
This is a digitally remastered long awaited CD release of two great Bassey albums "You Take My Heart Away" from 1977 and "Yesterdays" from 1978 (plus 5 bonus tracks!). If they were being released for the first time in 2008, they would probably be titled "Great Songs of the Seventies" and "The Great American Songbook". The title track from the first album is from the movie "Rocky" and is one Bassey's best recordings. Also included are her versions of classic songs of the seventies including "Silly Love Songs" and "If". The second album was a complete change in style. Bassey returned to the studio to record in the old fashioned way. Bassey and full orchestra together in the studio, recording "live" just like in the old days. The results are outstanding!. Each song is a powerhouse performance. Many others have since tried to record "The Great American Songbook", but here we have the greatest female singer of them all performing these classic songs, full throttle with full orchestra.
