Soooooooo difficult
My main problem with this game is that it is so difficult to see where the enemies are. The bright lights of Vegas only exacerbate things. Soon there is gunfire coming from all angle and its nearly impossible to tell where from until its too late.

Less strategy than previous Rainbow six, this is more like Call Of Duty, only not as good. Recommended for serious gamers only, otherwise go for Call Of Duty 4.

something different!
this game is a break through in duck and cover as if you fight in open war fare you will be creamed.this factor makes this game so much more different and fun compared to other FPS. this feature gives pointless blown up cars and other objects a point ... for cover. once behind the object you can fire at your enemys from safety. picking them off one by one . this game has other interesting features such as terrorist hunts (which can some times be a little nerve racking)the whole point of this game is stealth ,so if you want something a little different that requires at least some stratergy then this is the game for you. also i imagine this game can only get better but i cant tell you as i cant play multiplayer due to the lack of xbox live.the one annoying feature about this game is that on terrorist hunts enemys can sometimes sporn behind you or in places you have already cleared out. once again i hope this review has helped you make a decision .... Stealth not crash band
Having owned an Xbox 360 for about 5 months now I have intensely played a number of games that I am comparing this to (Halo 3, COD3, COD4, Half-life2, GTA 4)

This is different from your normal crash band shoot-em-up, much like Metal Gear Solid (PS3) you are a small team (and sometimes an individual) who have to fight often large numbers of bad guys. The skill is in learning the uses of different weapons and how to take cover and fire over and around objects. There is real fun in using your team members to clear small rooms with flash bangs, grenades and explosives. If the terrorists are stupid enough to stand near doors then use it to your advantage. The use of the snake cam is a good touch. You can survey the room before making an entry, which you should do at all stages. This is a game where the AI is well trained and aggressive, and they like to sneak up on you too. Don't be fooled into running into areas where there are likely to many more bad guys you will get killed.

The graphics look a little dated compared to more modern Xbox favourites, but that's to be expected. They are still good and give a real sense at time of what life as a `Special Ops' could be (rather than working in IT and writing reviews on Amazon).

My only `beef' with the game was the lack of sensible save points. On a modern console with 20Gb of storage the last thing I wanted was to have to play a tough 20 minute sequence only to die (which is easier than you think, as one shotgun blast will do it) and have to play the entire thing again. Plus when you `outfit' at certain points you expect that selection to stay with you, it doesn't. If you die you have to come back to the checkpoint and`re-outfit' which seems somewhat bizarre and at times very frustrating.

To make the most of this game:

Learn to take cover ! (Learn to shoot around and over things)
Have a hand gun, sub machine gun and a sniper rifle. Dont just use sub-machine guns
Try the shield in really tough situations, it works !
Have grenades but mix it up with smoke for situations in the open and lots of bad guys or incendiaries for smaller spaces packed with baddies

If your a more tactical player this is for you, if your more of a `run-and-shoot' you may find this disappointing as you will invariably play certain parts a number of times. It's meant to be fairly life like, as such even the `normal' setting is tough

For the price though there isn't much else this involved and tactical, my copy was £13....
Enjoy !

Better than average game but unforgivable lack of save option!
Update June 2008: I re-played the entire game, after only intending to take a quick look at it, and enjoyed it so much I had to comment:

I think my previous review below was unfair. It is easily one of the best games I have played on the Xbox 360, clearly has HUGE replay value, and I put it up there with other game master pieces like the Splinter Cell series and the two Ghost Recon Advanced Warrior Xbox 360 games.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

No save options, you just have to get to the next checkpoint. Some people may enjoy playing the same level over and over again. I don't, and there seems to be no cheats available on the net, so if you get fed up and stuck somewhere it's game over.

Setting the game in Las Vegas casinos may have seemed like a good idea but the visual overload of colour and light from the machines in many areas means it's almost impossible to see where the enemy is.

The hide behind object function is good - and all games will probably start to use this technique - but in Rainbow Six it is sometimes jerky and doesn't always work. Certainly nowhere near as well implemented as it was in Gears of War.

Weapons, special goggles, player animation are all excellent, and the controls to order squad are easy to use and works well.

Overall the game looks just okay, plays well and is often a lot of fun and it's well worth £15 - £20 but certainly no more.
