Big Calm take 2
Suave and well-produced, but due partly to a slightly lower standard of songwriting and partly to a motley assortment of vocalists, it never quite reaches the level of Big Calm. For Morcheeba fans only.

Hard to explain...
...but I'm really struggling to get into this album - and the root cause is what many others here seem to like - it's the 'variety'.

Whilst I still 'dig' their vibe, this a quite uneven delivery of the Morcheeba style - almost as if this is a Morcheeba covers disc, with a selection of artists you wouldn't naturally find together.

Whatever the personnel issues they've had previously, this album strongly points to the need for a permanent singer in the band - such as Judie Tzuke, as she sounds blooming fab on tracks 1 and 8.

Having the same voice throughout really would have helped glue the whole production together. And I truly hate to say this, but some of the (other) singing isn't actually terribly good - this should have been fixed at source, rather than trying to solve it 'in the mix' later.

Don't get me wrong - there are some twinkling little gems within - tracks 1, 3 and 7 esp stand out, and 5, 8 and 10 aren't shabby either - but they don't sit happily together, and overall it's just too uneven, ending up less than the sum of its parts.

Truth be told it's a two+half stars disc, but it's not five-stars, not for me.

Great album!!
I was a massive fan of Big calm. Listened to it non stop a few years back but since then i kind of forgot about Morcheeba and subsequently did not get much play time on my ipod.. Then my Girlfriend surprised me with tickets to watch them at the Shepherds Bush Empire. They blew me away!

As soon as i got home i listened to there new album which i didnt even know was out. I think it is the best album they have done. Absolutely briliiant, some real hair on the back of your head classic tunes like 'Enjoy the ride' 'Gained the world' 'Sleep on it'.

Great Album a must for any collection!!

Very impressive
Having previously only bought their 'best of / parts of the process', I thought I'd give this a whirl.
Way better than I expected and to be honest better than their 'Best of' album!

Don't assume you'll like just cos it's Morcheeba
I'm a fairly objective person. I've enjoyed every other Morcheeba LP but I wasn't keen on this one. The first song, yes, is superb. But after that, it's pretty underwhelming. WATCH OUT for these Amazon reviews -generally people only "review" things unless they're fans. Who knows? Maybe you'll like it. Hey, maybe I will if I keep listening. But I've played it a good few times and it's definately the weakest of their albums I've heard.
