Below AverageBeing a massive Lukather fan and waiting for over a year for this release I have found this release to be very disappointing.
The main problem I find is that it lacks an identity and a consistency which can be found on his other solo releases. The album can't decide if it wants to be fresh young rock or more AOR and the combination doesn't really work.
Although tracks 1-6 are better than the rest, most of it is quite forgettable in terms of melody.
There are some great performances on the album although Lukathers voice has not aged well and suggest he see a throat specialist as there seems to be some constant rasp which I found off putting. Also the fact the album has not been crushed to death is a god send, it is very listenable from that point of view.
I'm still a big fan and will always support what he does but I don't think this is his best effort

Warning! This is a real slow burner, but give it time!!I bet that guy who gave this album 2 stars is eating his words now!!
I felt pretty much the same the first time through. Few highlights, loads of fillers, and very predictable. One month on, the throwaway tracks have become my favourites, and I have the CD rolling over constantly in the car. I can't wait until Luke tours with this. Thank god he got over his "fusion" phase, and got back to real rock.
I love evey track bar one (Never Ending Nights), which I would confess to skipping on occasions. The rest of the album is a gem. even the instrumental track is growing on me.
Best track by far, is the Steeley Dan inspired "Stab in the back". It's worth the whole "admission fee" on its own.
Keep rockin' Luke. See you on tour. And please... No fusion !!!

So disappointingJust awful...I'm a huge Lukather fan but this is a huge disappointment. Melodies wander about all over the place looking for adequate hooks which they consistently fail to find.
Very little is memorable, I found myself fast forwarding through the songs to the solos, which as ever, are very good, and probably better than any of his peers doing this kind of stuff, but again, no where near his best work.
The self titled first solo album is a much better intro to his solo work, catchy songs that fitted together with a structure, melody and blistering solos. Real songs, that's what you want from a Lukather album.
I'm not quite sure why he wanted to release this; none of the songs stand up to repeated hearing, or can be remembered after about half an hour. Come on mate, you can do sooo much better than this.
