Good drive and softwareBought this to do backups. Using supplied Memeo software took a long time (a couple of days on and off) to back up 120gb however once backedup it now automatically backs up all the changed files on two separate partitions. Runs quietly, doesn't get hot and automatically switches on and off with my (Vista) PC. Only 4 stars as Memeo did take ages to do the initial backup. Have been using it for about a month now and very pleased with it.

Fan-bloody-tasticWell impressed , this drive is as simple as it gets !! Easy install (on Vista) click what you want to back up ie photos, music, documents and the drive pretty much does everything else for you.
A bargain at £101

Delighted!I bought this drive a couple or three weeks ago from Amazon and I couldn't be more delighted - especially given the ridiculously low £/Gb cost!
The drive itself is solid, very well made, sports 'USB Turbo' and is near silent in operation. It can sit up or lay down, pending the user's preference, has intelligent power switching, and my drive barely gets warm to the touch even after several hours use - so I really can't see the need to purchase the optional fan that is available for this drive.
The back-up software (Memeo) I see almost as being merely icing on the cake, so to that end, it's doing it job well ...albeit I've used more user friendly software of it's type ...but certainly I've had no issues re' using this drive/software with Vista.
All in all, it's about the best circa £90 I've spent in a very long time ...so much so that I've just revisited this page to order another example!

Not as plug and play as you think - Vista again!!!Bought this drive as it seemed good value for money and has good reviews, and whilst that might be true for the drive itself, it is most certainly not of the software. If you follow the instructions to install the drive on a Vista pc theneverything will be OK until you use the encryption software. At which point the drive will disappear from your system. The problem revolves around the need to re format the drive after setting the encryption software - simply you cannot because the Vista no longer recognises the drive. After 3 hours I had to resort to installing it on my old XP laptop and carrying out the re format to NTFS ( the drive is FAT32 on delivery - who knows why? ) with the laptop. After this everything was fine and the drive miraculosly re appeared on my Vista machine. The drive is fine the software and instruction books are useless and do not do what they say without a great deal of aggro on a Vista software computer.

Great Hard DriveI have a 500gb seagate drive that was filling up so I decided it was time to move up to the 1tb. Two caught my eye. This one and a western digital drive. I looked into the western digital drives and found a vast number of complaints about them breaking down just outside warranty and having appalling customer service and the buffalo one seemed much more reliable from the reviews.
Upon installing I was informed that it had a Samsung drive in it which settled any worries about reliability. I've only had it for about 24 hours but so far it's running great, transferring a lot faster than the old seagate. It has an extra AC input on the back so you can power some extra fans if you ever have any over heating problems. I doubt I'll ever need it because I've been writing to it for about 3 hours straight and it's half the temperature of the seagate, which has never overheated.
The only thing that bothers me,(this is in no way exclusive to this drive) is the whole 1000 bytes in a kilobytes, and so on, instead of the 1024, meaning you lose out on the space you pay for. I've had this problem with every hard drive I've ever owned, but due to the overall size, it's gotten to the point where you lose 70gb of your hard drive. When will this con end?
That aside, I highly recommend this hard drive. For reliability I can't fault the seagate which has been running smooth for 2 years (even after I dropped it a year ago). I hope this buffalo is the same and with a samsung drive inside, I'm confident it will be.
Oh yeah, almost forgot how sweet it looks. Much more stylish that the seagate.
Summary: Reliable make, good cooling system, fast transfer rates for USB, looks sweet, is cheap, buy it.
