Amazon.co.uk Review
After the successful first standalone outing for the character, Kevin Whately returns to the title role of ILewis/I again, for a second full season of investigations. And things seem, to the benefit of the viewer, just as dangerous as they always were. P This series of ILewis/I is set five years after the death of IInspector Morse/I (to whom Lewis was, of course, the sidekick), and while the gap left behind by the late, great John Thaw is occasionally felt, this is still very much quality drama in its own right. P Thus, this DVD set brings together all four feature-length episodes from the second series of ILewis/I, and finds the detective in his familiar Oxford stomping ground. Accompanied by Laurence Fox’s DS Hathaway, a collection of well-written, compelling mysteries are waiting to be solved. PThe series’ investigations cover the discovery of a body in a library through to the world of underground boxing and a rape case that brings out the worst in the Oxford establishment. And there aren’t any weak links here: each episode is involving, intelligent and a gripping watch. Even at its worst, ILewis/I is very good television drama. P What’s more, Whately is terrific in the increasingly complex central role, and the scripts continue to allow him to flesh out the character. ILewis/I is, in many ways, a flawed man, and as he works his way through the layered and involving cases, this becomes ever-more obvious. And the programme is all the better for it. For in spite of some cynicism when it first announced that a standalone ILewis/I programme was being produced, there’s ample here to silence the most sceptical of naysayers. For ILewis/I is, simply, very strong television. --IJon Foster/I

INSPECTOR LEWIS IS MORSE
IF YOU LIKED THE CHARACTER SARGENT LEWIS THAT KENVIN WHATLEY PLAYED IN INSPECTOR MORSE'S SERIES, YOU WILL DEFINATELY LIKE THE NEW AND OLDER INSPECTOR LEWIS. SARGENT HATHAWAY, THE NEW GOPHER FOR INSPECTOR LEWIS ADDS MORSE'S LITERARY AND INTELLECTUAL TRAITS TO LEWIS'S DOWN HOME LOGIC. br /A MUST FOR MORSE, LYNLEY, FROST, PRIME SUSPECT FANS.

An enjoyable second outing..
I thoroughly enjoyed the first series of Lewis--great acting, terrific setting, involving stories--and this one's just as good. Lewis and Hathaway make a great contrast but also a great team, and there's a really engaging atmosphere to it all. Recommended.

Lewis Series 2
Good film, very fast moving with numerous references and uses of modern communication technology. Well photographed. Sometime difficult to follow the logic. Good interaction between Lewis, Hathaway and Innocent. Having now bought all three series, the same comments would apply to all of them. If a 4th. series appeared, I would buy that too.

A great tribute to Morse
This series brings to life the character and surroundings of Oxfordshire. br /Not a place to walk alone at times, in these wonderfully crafted episodes. br /But it is good to know that should you be unfortunate enough to be a victim of some callous crime, Lewis and Hathaway will eventually solve the case, perhaps after a few beers at the Trout public house. br /Morse would be proud,if somewhat amused at the time taken to solve the who-done-it?
