pFans of iLaguna Beach/i will love the first season of iThe Hills/i, which follows Laguna's Lauren Conrad as she attends fashion school in Los Angeles and works as an intern at Teen Vogue magazine. OK, so that's the premise for this quasi-reality MTV series. But in reality, the show is an excuse to watch pretty young people make out, break up, get back together, and break up some more. The show has more in common with a daytime drama than a documentary; none of the subjects worries too much about paying rent for their glamorous apartments or designer clothes. But when it comes to dating, the Geneva Convention could learn a thing or two about negotiating from these gals. Lauren fans may be dismayed to learn that Jason, the monosyllabic Lothario who cheated on her in the second season of Laguna Beach is back. And instead of going on dates with the thousands of young men who would love to have a pretty blonde on their arms (and get the opportunity to appear on TV to boot!), Lauren allows Jason to get back into her good graces--even though he hasn't matured since high school. Or figured out how to treat a woman. Or learned how to talk better. It's actually heartbreaking watching her struggle with a relationship that we can all see is doomed. Or is it? /p pThe season finale ends with the kind of dilemma we all wish we could've faced when we were 19 or 20: spend the summer working in Paris or move into a beach house with your boyfriend and frolic on the beach for three months. Paris? Jason? Hmmmm. You'd think that'd be a no-brainer. Also on hand to offer support are Lauren's friends Heidi and Audrina. The cast always looks chic and freshly made up (even after getting out of bed) and the cameras somehow always manage to be in the right place to capture romantic moments (and drama). It's easy to make fun of this show because of the preposterous setup that this sun-kissed life is reality for a group of kids who don't seem to have to work that hard for their privileged lives. But therein lies the guilty pleasure. We know it's a fantasy created by MTV. And while we would kill for the rocking apartments, cars, and clothes, there is no way most of us would endure being publicly humiliated to get 15 minutes of fame. --Jae-Ha Kim /p

Disappointing
I bought this show after having enjoyed Gossip Girl, hoping to find something along the lines and was fairly disappointed by the quality of that show

Awful - spoiled rich kids who don't want to work
I guess this would be ok if you were a young teenager - the acting is very wooden and the storylines just go to show how spoiled some teenagers are in today's world - to be honest, I wouldn't let my daughter watch this - she'd never get a job or see college through! Disappointing

Excellent DVD box set - lots of laughs and crys included. A must see!! Cant wait for the next season - Lauren is great.

best reality show on mtv
even though the frist season is already two years old, i can just recommend the series. I've seen all the episodes online as I heard something about it when Laguna Beach finished. Well, I don't like watching any series where you think how unreal and faked it is - but personally I believe that each season and each episode includes one topic especially young people can relate to liek all the boyfriend and best friend issues. br /It also offers some nice music in loads of episodes. br /Summin up, I can just repeat myself and say watch some epsiodes online on mtv.com and you will feel highly enthusiastic about it.and afterwards you're gonna buy the season - thats how i went through it. Only thing is, it's getting to an addiction:D

If you like Laguna Beach you'll love this....
Following Lauren/LC off of Laguna Beach The Hills is a lot more interesting as it creates new characters and new locations. Seeing Beverly Hills is a change of scenery and LC was always a popular character on LB so is enjoyable to watch her progress and undertake her internship at Teen Vogue. I really like being able to see the lives of others in different countries, and it's not overly fake too. There is still loads of drama in this series with characters such as Heidi. I now prefer The Hills to Laguna Beach - probably because it's newer but also because I love the new locations! Series 2 is even better :) :) can't wait for the DVD release.
