Curate's Egg
The quality of the display is excellent, and the 800 x 600 format means that most pictures from your camera will be displayed without the display cropping the height as will happen with a 16:9 ratio.(some 7" displays) However there are some issues. Even if you format your SD card to have several folders to hold say your holidays in one and your grandchildren in another, there is no way of preventing the Frame from displaying them in the 'Modified Date' order. This means it will take photos from any folder, dictated solely by the 'Modified Date' parameter. This is a big drawback. Likewise with the MP3 files. As mentioned in other reviews, I too have had trouble getting the unit to be recognised via USB to my PC. Each drive appears in the hierarchy on the PC, but has Zero Bytes under properties and nothing can be dropped into them. This has been the same on three different computers. (1 x XP, 2 x W2k). Finally, the holder on the back to hold the remote control is too small, hence taking it out pulls the holder out of the fixings.... annoying. I have also managed to freeze the unit by being over zealous with the remote control. This means powering down. Good unit spoiled by some irritating issues.

Dreadful Picture Quality
I bought this for a Christmas present, having been impressed by the other reviews on the Amazon site. However, after setting the frame up, I inserted an SD card and started the slideshow, only to find that the quality of the pictures was appalling, with all straight lines showing as jagged interpretations (note that the pictures were 3264x2448 resolution on a Canon camera).

By coincidence, I was given a 800x600 Jessops photoframe for Christmas and when comparing the same image on both frames, the difference was like chalk and cheese.

Avoid this frame at all costs.

Maybe HP put a 400x300 screen in this one (or perhaps it was just a one-off manufacturing fault), but whichever - I'll be asking for my money back rather than risk another one.

Overpriced, poor quality, probably better other examples to be had
To cover the many bad points first: the photo frame arrived with a dead pixel; returned it to Amazon's seller (at my expense) and a new one was promptly shipped. The remote control on this one was defective; a new remote was sent and this time OK.
Don't expect the picture quality to be similar to that which you get on your PC screen; I knew this but was still slightly shocked at how grainy the resolution was. It's OK from a distance I guess.
If you choose to display the time (you probably wouldn't, as it's a photo frame) it's in US format. In calendar mode you're OK, as the month is spelt out.
There's no option for creating / separating series of photo slide shows - it plays what it finds on the card.
No trace of it on the HP website, apart from the manual, which is worrying. I suspect it's a HP-badged OEM product, possibly by Lite-On.
Apart from the dubious quality, the very worst feature, as several reviewers have noted on Amazon.com, is that it plays photos, mp3s, etc in the order of Most Recently Modified first, with no override or re-sorting possible.

Good points: the two frames are elegant and look good and are easy to fit.
The user interface is adequate - although you can't switch the frame on/off with the remote; conversely you can't adjust the volume without the remote. Volume - yes it plays MP3s as well, if you wish, put on a selection of music on the media card and you can opt to play these as background music to the photos (classical music + photos slide show = very nice).
It also plays videos (AVIs and the like) with full audio, very impressive.

All in all, my mum will like it, but you can probably buy much better and more cheaply (HP premium price).

Great - BUT
Selected because of high resolution and internal memory. Picture quality great BUT it will not connect to my XP computer. Tried 4 computers - all unable to recognize the frame. HP UK customer service escalated problem to UK Tech Support. Still waiting for a response after 7 days (6 Dec 08). HP US Tech Support replied immediately by e-mail. Eventually found that frame can be connected using either of my Fuji or Olympus camera USB leads. But NEVER with the HP-supplied lead. Other must-do is to remove all other USB devices connected to the computer before turning on the frame.
So, when it works it does everything advertised, but not with the HP-supplied mini USB lead.

GOOD NAME GOOD FRAME
I bought one of these for my wife and she is very pleased with it. There are a lot of cheap unbranded photo frames around and I was concerned to go for a reputable make with good performance and value for money. I also wanted to get a frame which had a screen width/height ratio closer to the original digital photo proportions to avoid severe cropping or large black areas on the unfilled screen that are prevalent on some 7" widescreen frames. This HP photo frame certainly fits the bill. Fortunately, I had a spare SD card so I loaded it into my card reader plugged in my computer, opened up our digital photo folder in windows explorer and let my wife drag and drop all the photos she wanted onto the SD card. It was as easy as that. I then put the SD card into the photo frame and we marvelled at all our old photos that we hadn't seen for some time. I haven't tried the USB connection so I can't comment on the problems that one or two others have had.
