Amazon.co.uk Review
To some extent, the team behind the revival of St. Trinian's were on a bit of a hiding to nothing. The old films, contextualised by a far different age, were knockabout, energetic, yet innocent comedies about the antics of a boisterous girls' school and its inhabitants. Surprisingly though, the remake--again inspired by the Ronald Searle cartoons--manages to sidestep the bulk of the obstacles in its path, and proves itself as a likeable, entertaining comedy.

The plot of St. Trinian's is as paper-thin as you'd expect, and serves merely as a platform for the anarchic actions of the cast of characters (some hokum about stealing a picture and saving the school). And a mischievous lot they prove to be: while they don't quite live up to the memories of the generation of St. Trinian's students before them, the primarily young cast still attack their roles with tremendous, and infectious, gusto.

And leading the cast is Rupert Everett, in an entertaining duel role at St. Trinian's headmistress Miss Frinton and her brother, Carnaby. Joined by Colin Firth, he's clearly having a whale of a time, and his casting process a wise decision. It's great to see the always-wonderful Celia Imrie in there, too.

St Trinian's, as you'd expect, has plenty of problems, notably a script that relies too much on the charm of its cast to pull it through. But heck, it's still fun, and a hard film not to enjoy. It won't win Oscars, but it will put a grin on your face. --Jon Foster

Woefully unfunny and pointless remake
In this lazy remake of St Trinians the film makers have decided to update it (the St Trinians girls now include 'chavs' and 'goths') for a modern audience, but then completely forgot to include any jokes or any notable humour whatsoever. It's as if the whole film was completely rushed and everyone just wanted to get the whole thing over and done with as quickly as possible.

Most of the attempted jokes are half-hearted at best, and a majority of the humour just falls flat on its face. The only time you think the comedy element might improve is when Russell Brand is on screen, but even he is under par and fails to inject any real laughs.

The film does no justice at all to the St Trinians name and leaves you feeling so underwhelmed you wonder why they even bothered with this remake.

Saints Preserve Us
If you are a fan of the old St. Trinian's films DO NOT under any circumstances watch this "remake". To be fair I am over 40 and it was my daughter who wanted to watch it but only because 2 of her friends were actually in the film. It was neither witty nor intelligent, something film makers don't seem to understand how to do any more. Russell Brand is dreadful, needless to say, and most of the humour is lowest common denominator - a dog "shagging" Colin Firth's leg? Even my 6 year old didn't laugh. Get out your old copies of the originals and enjoy.

so-so St trinian's
Not as bad as I expected but not as funny as the hype suggested. A couple of belly laughs, not more. Fine for a quiet night on TV...

A lot better than I expected
To be honist I wasn't planning to watch this film let alone enjoy it. Because of a fault on an inflight entertainment system this was the only film I could watch. To my suprise I actually enjoyed it.

The cast was top notch, it was well written and was very funny in places. It certainly was not dull. I loved the original St Trinians with George Cole and wasn't expecting much - how nice it was to be proved wrong.

The dvd has some excellent special features including deleated scenes and some funny bloopers. If you enjoy light comedy then this film is for you.
