Entertaining but not smart
br / br /A weird part in the film is when Zizek picks up a copy of the the movie Being There. Has he not seen the film or is he just having us on? Being There is a satire on gurus. The movie is a masterpiece of philosophical reflection. In it Peter Sellers plays a simpleton who speaks nonsense but his every word is misinterpreted and so people think he's very clever and profound. He's basically a walking rorschach block. A bit like Zizek don't you thin? Please re-watch the part where Zizek is in the coffee shop and tell me if it makes any sense to you? Or the part in which he's talks about quantum mechanics? Its gibberish but we like Zizek because he's funny and charismatic so our minds block out the nonsense. I just dont believe Zizek is as clever as people make him out to be. He is funny though. Overall a very entertaining film and Zizek seems like a nice guy but I'm not convinced by his philosophy.

Slight
In the model of the film on Derrida, the direction of this documentary gives relatively little insight into its subject's thought. Too many sections simply follow the him around his daily business, which is not the most exciting. Whilst he is undoubtedly quite a spectacle, I have little interest in seeing in which drawer Slavoj keeps his pants, or which of his children's toys he likes best. If 'Domestic Zizek' is your thing, this is probably the DVD for you. If not, you should buy The Pervert's Guide to the Cinema, where we see much more of the entertaining, imaginative and insightful thought that makes Zizek compelling.
