The story is..amazing!I dont know off the top of my head where I heard of Brandi Carlile but I can tell you i dont regret it for a minute. After a few weeks of frustatingly listening to her off YouTube I bought this album and her self-titled album.
This album combines folk, rock, country and soul in one amazing package. Highlights for me are the opening track "Late Morning Lullaby", "Turpentine" which Carlile wrote as a teenager, "Have You Ever" and "The Story", the last two written by Brandi's band mate Phil Hanseroth who plays and sings harmonies on most tracks and forms Brandi's touring band along with his brother Tim (who co-wrote a few on the album too). "Josephine" is a rootsy, old style folk tune with perfect 3-part harmony and simple guitar picking.
Another highlight is the appearance of the Indigo Girls who sing harmonies on "Cannonball".
Brandi Carlile's voice is so outstanding and unique you have to sit back and take it all in. I can only imagine what the atmosphere would be like at one of her concerts.
If you like Bonnie Raitt, Sheryl Crow, Patty Griffin, KD Lang and the Beatles this is for you!

Late Morning LullabyI must admit I wasn't too sure about The Story when I first heard it ( it really did take me an absolute age for this album to grow on me and to appreciate it fully ) but I'm glad I stuck with it and it is well worth it in the long run .There are some real gems of songs on here and I am very surprised that she and her band have not been given more attention.Extremely underated.

V.S.O.P. BrandiBrandi Carlile has definitely got something special. I'd hadn't heard her name before, but this CD is a superb listen. There's good reason to compare her with, say KT Tunstall, but Brandi Carlile's songs cover a broader stylistic area and have a more natural feel. T-Bone Burnett's production is also excellent.
Strong songwriting and a confident performance. I look forward to seeing where her talent takes her in the future. She's destined for big things!

But it now, you wont be disappointedI've got a lot to thank Jools Holland for, as I first saw Brandi on one of his "Later with Jools" shows. I have to say that I was blown away by the sound and the performance, so much so that I bought this album straight away without reading any reviews, which is unusual for me.
Having read some of the reviews before writing this, I realise there are some very eloquent writers out there who know what they are talking about. Therefore my advice to any readers of this review is to only look at the review rated 4 or 5 stars. I have played some of this album to some of my friends and they have gone out and bought it as well.
There are so many outstanding lyrics in this album that I wouldn't know where to start my preferences, so I will leave you to decide. Although I haven't read all 46 reviews I might be the first to suggest that Brandi is up there with Eva Cassidy as she has a fantastic voice that is truly without equal. Plus, at the risk of sounding sexist, she is soooo cute.
I look forward to seeing her live at the earliest opportunity.

BC Story. In the beginning...This is country with a bit of rock (U2 comes to mind on The Story) and a twist of blues. Quite commercial in covering as many corners as possible. Not bad though - just not original. Don't like the breaking voice on some tracks; I find it grates. Turps is okay. Okay, as I am listening as I am writing, I am liking this more Turps thing more. Quite poppy. Beware of easily liked things since they don't last too long... 'My Song' now back to U2 mode, Snow Patrol etc... I like it. Okay I'll give it **** She has quite a line in catchy chord sequences. Nice production too - clean and effortless. Not bad atall. Buy it, it's a bit of everything. She's got a good voice too. Hang on. 'Wasted' reminds me of the delicious Katie Melua. This bottle of cabernet sauvignon is going down rather well. Don't like the lead in Wasted. 'Have You Ever' the truth is out - country and some folk. Not so good. 'Josephine' not tonight. 'Losing Heart' is better - menacing feel. 'Cannonball' dropped. Ouch! "I was born when I met you" How else? Duh!! 'Until I die' dies. U2 mode again but no it changes. 'Downpour' (tears?)country folk heart-strings stuff with violin low notes. 'Shadows on the Wall' Okay. 'Again Today' and again U2 mode. Not bad but demoted to ***.
