The Curates Egg
I've no idea if this is an official Tangerine Dream release or not. There are no sleeve notes to explain the origins of the music - just a few pictures - one of Froese with Klaus Shulze and one of him with Salvidor Dali? br / br /As for the music, well for fans of the "Alpha Centauri" to "Poland" phase of the band this is just a goldmine of musical gems. It's not all great, but there are enough excellent tracks to help gloss over the occassional blooper. br / br /CD1 kicks off with a couple of tracks by The Ones, (a Syd Barrett style pop combo). They're both rubbish of course, but as the cd moves into more complex music they serve their purpose by demonstrating how Edgar Froese progressed from pointless pop-star to purveyor of "electronic magic". br / br /There are a few tantalizing hints of old familiar favourites too, (Alpha, Zeit, Atem). They're all great and worth a listen. Also there's one track that's a mix of early Tangs and Froese music - all seamlessly merged together via an occassional simplistic sequence of........well bleeps and bloops - as you might expect. br / br /CD2 contains a load of tracks that could easily have been on the "Exit" album. It's mostly good stuff, but occassionally borders on the dull side. br /Fortunately someone somewhere has remembered that the sequencer is king, and so CD2 concludes with an excellent ten minute track which wouldn't have been out of place on the White Eagle or Tangram albums. br / br /I say four stars!! br / br / br / br / br / br / br / br /
