Amazon.co.uk reviewpiVantage Point/i, which aspires to be a cunningly twisted thriller, comes equipped with plenty of hurtling action, handheld camerawork, what-was-that? editing, and a plot that has multiple, contradictory agendas writhing like a nest of snakes. It's all set within a few blocks of a town square in Spain where a U.S. President is targeted for assassination. Although the movie lasts 90 minutes, the events it depicts are mostly over within fifteen minutes or so--but seen, rewound, and reseen from half a dozen different (you guessed it) vantage points. The first line in the credits reads "Original Film," apparently the name of the production company. "Gimmick Movie" might be more accurate. The opening reel, effectively jolting, affords an initial overview of the events through the eyes, lenses, monitors, and duelling sensibilities of a TV news producer (Sigourney Weaver), her activist-minded reporter (Zoe Saldana) and crew. Everybody’s in Salamanca for the start of an international conference to reaffirm Arab-Western commitment to the fight against terrorism. Terrorism, of course, sees this as an ideal moment to break out. As gunshots and explosions reduce everything to chaos, the clock is reset to zero and we proceed to revisit the scene as experienced by several Secret Service agents (namely Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox), an American tourist with camcorder (Forest Whitaker), sundry locals--including three who may be caught up in a love triangle or a conspiracy or both--and even the President himself (William Hurt)./p pFor a while, this is mildly diverting: that guy, or that gesture, so sinister when glimpsed across the plaza in one run-through, now appears harmless in closeup--or vice versa. But there's no real ambiguity (so stop with the careless comparisons to Kurosawa's iRashomon/i)--this is a shell game in which the peas aren't worth tracking. Despite decent actors, the characters might as well be holograms (although poor Forest Whitaker is saddled with "motivation" of surpassing sappiness), and the casting telegraphs several twists: one redoubtable good guy practically gives a wink-wink, nudge-nudge that he's really bad, etc. The movie declines to specify which nutjob philosophy the terrorists espouse, and their numbers are multi-ethnic. There's also a laborious suggestion that they have bloodthirsty, reactionary counterparts among the President's inner circle, which perhaps qualifies as redeeming socio-political comment and prompts a meaningless declaration of deep meaning from the Prez. The whole megilleh finally comes down to an extended car chase through impassably claustrophobic streets that would mark a lurch into unintentional self-parody--if only that point hadn't been passed a couple of rewinds earlier. i--Richard T. Vantage Point - ReviewFilm is quite violent and very fast moving. Found the repetition of scenes from each view point rather boring but overall story is good.

Boring plot interrupted by irritating rewindsIf you like sitting in front of the screen and starting a conversation about an un-related subject and then have to ask what you have missed while you've been talking, this film gives you eight opportunities to catch up on exactly the same story. Unfortunately each character's perspective is boring, the characters are wooden and irritating, particularly Forest Whitaker's idiotic smile when filming the president's boring speech about something boring. I wasted good money watching this garbage at the cinema - don't throw good money after bad. Sam Roberts.

Vantage PointThis film was o.k, it kept repeating itself over and over about 4 times but the ending was quite good.

No Advantage PointThe idea of the same period of time being covered from different characters perspectives has been tackled on a number of occasions ("Crash, "Go", "The Simpsons...!) and usually to good effect. "Vantage Point" starts off really promisingly in a furious "24" stylie with some excellent set pieces...unfortunately however it all goes belly up when director Peter Travis attempts to tie it all together in the final third. Nothing makes sense and the worlds most irritating little girl wanders about from scene to scene shouting "Mamaaaa". A shame because the silliness of the conclusion ruined - what as to then - a great film.

Riveting, engrossing and superbly directedWhen this first came out I was not overly interested in seeing this film, but thankfully I was able to buy this for just £2.50, so I thought I'd give it a chance, to say the least I'm very pleased that I did.

br /I tend to watch between 30-50 films per week and I can honestly say that this is the best film I've seen for at least a month or so.
br /
br /The way that this film is portrayed going from one person or set of persons perspective are superbly inter-twined, the suspense and tension is cranked up a notch with the telling of each persons own view point or vantage point.
br /
br /It's a film that had me on the edge of my seat from the start to the very end and I think that both the director and editor deserve a huge amount of credit for keeping the film flowing from one view point to the next and it's not until the last 10 minutes or so that everything comes together via a terrific car chase, we then see the end of some of the view points as well as the conclusion as to what the final outcome is too.
br /
br /I'll certainly be watching this for years to come, but if nothing else I'd highlt recommend hiring if nothing else.
