Amazon.co.uk ReviewThe debut album by Salford's The Ting Tings comes hot on the heels of their No.1 single "That's Not My Name", a nugget of pop gold that comes on like a genetic splicing of Toni Basil's "Micky" and The Knack's "My Sharona". The bulk of iWe Started Nothing/i follows a similar formula, navigating a path between the smart, angular indie of CSS, Bonde Do Role, et al and the pop mainstream. Here and there, they pull it off perfectly: the stutter-rap of "Fruit Machine" sees vocalist Katie White leading on some poor sap with sultry charisma and lip-gloss sass, while the excellent "Shut Up and Let Me Go" is snappy dance-punk in the spirit of Blondie's "Rapture" or Tom Tom Club's "Genius of Love". Elsewhere, they branch out with mixed results. "We Walk" builds from quiet flourishes of piano into a surprisingly steely manifesto: "Smash the rest up/Burn it down/Put us in the corner cause we're into ideas", sneers White. Rather less good is "Traffic Light", a light, jazzy number that employs a number of somewhat forced driving metaphors to describe a relationship hit the skids. Still, it's a debut with promise, and a string of good singles is nothing to be sniffed at. i-–Louis Pattison/i

Ting Tings R TopsA fantastic pop album with around half a dozen top tunes. Easy listening, catchy tunes, a lovely voice and some quirky lyrics to boot. I'd highly recommend the album.

Entertaining fluff when the mood takes youFirst of all, I absolutely love "That's Not My Name". There - I said it.

br /The bad things... Some of the songs are a little repetitive, and Katie isn't the greatest singer in the world, preferring to shout or yelp most of the lyrics. There are moments, even entire tracks, where you feel you're listening to a Toni Basil tribute act.
br /
br /That said...

br /This is a very enjoyable album if you just want something fun, rather than a lyrical or musical masterpiece which will inspire you to produce great works of art, provoke debate, and so on. The songs are simple, fun, and you'll find yourself singing along despite your best efforts.
br /
br /Stand out tracks are "Great DJ", "That's Not My Name", "Shut Up And Let Me Go", the sweet pop of "Be The One", and the tremendously funky, almost Sly Stone-esque "We Started Nothing", which absolutely blew me away when I first heard it.
br /
br /If the singles annoyed you and made you want to destroy your speakers, don't buy it - it's simple. If you liked them and want more of the same, buy it - for what it is, it's great.

I like it. How bizarre.I actually like this CD. I'm stunned.

br /The first time I heard The absurdly named Ting Tings I merely raised my eyes skyward and moved on. Somewhere along the line however, I heard a couple of tracks I liked and here I am!
br /
br /Like The White Stripes, but with better tunes. How about a name change though? Squeaky and Thumpy?

LIGHTEN UP A BIT!!!Why are people taking the Ting Tings so seriously? Its a great album, ok its not trying to send a message or be mind blowingly intelligent its just a simple album with simple tunes which sound great! It appeals to all ages, my litttle girl loves it, I like it, my wife likes it. Its just a fun album and I think it does it brilliantly. Not expecting to buy or see another Ting Tings album but so what? Enjoy it for what it is.

br /Don't compare to ACDC, REM, U2 or Coldplay, it doesn't try to be any of these.
