Manufacturer's DescriptionThe third game in the
Fallout series,
Fallout 3 is a singleplayer action role-playing game (RPG) set in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC. Combining the horrific insanity of the Cold War era theory of mutually assured destruction gone terribly wrong, with the kitschy naivety of American 1950s nuclear propaganda,
Fallout 3 will satisfy both players familiar with the popular first two games in its series as well as those coming to the franchise for the first time.

Getting facts rightI would like to say I have been enjoying this game for around 20 hours now and except for dying alot it has been all fun.
I would now like to put a few people right.
PTO'Brien 2 star rating - "the same music in the background as Oblivion- which is actually very inappropriate." THIS IS NOT TRUE the music when there is music is totally different - you have obviously not played oblivion.
JA Pritchard 2 star rating - you are talking about the wrong game. Whats worse thing is somebody actually thought you were helpful!!!
RCook 2 star rating - "If its meant to be a FPS (which I assume it is?)" This game is an RPG. I have not seen anything that says otherwise apart from your useless review.
I have not had one technical issue so far (touch wood) and maybe an xbox live update will fix the issues some people are complaining about.
This game is much better than the annoying cartoon world of Fable 2.
MR C N Brown 3 star review - "It aint no Oblivion" No its not, that is why it is called FALL OUT 3
Romantic 4 star review - the pip boy problem has already been answered by someone else so you escape....... this time :)
Well my rant is over :)
Bethesda have done an amazing job at keeping the fall out series alive and well, especially after the whole black box thing and having to start the game from scratch.
The game is very absorbing and if you want to loose yourself in a fantasy world with super mutants and Giant Scorpions, saving caps (the game currency) making and repairing your own weapons, taking to people, thinking, then go ahead and get this game. If you want non stop action or a typical american (shoot first, think never) type game get COD 4 (not WAW 'cos the multiplayer feels empty and boring)
Im not going to say if you liked oblivion get this game because although some of the in game mechanics are similar and they were both made by Bethesda the games are nothing alike. I was a HUGE fan of oblivion racking up at least 150+ hours of gameplay, trying out different people and different quests etc but I cannot see how the two can be compared.
I hope this has cleared a few things up

Fallout 3. My new Favourite game. When I bought Oblivion I was single, jobless and penniless. I had never really played an RPG before and i wanted to get into games design. Oblivion was so life-afirmingly good that i played it obsessively! 15 hours a day easy, I fell in love with the characters i loved the game play and the story was awesome, but i think it was the freedom to do anything i wanted that i preffered the most. And sucked me in, it was very immersive. They've made it easier to jump around things too, no invisible collision walls or boring, linear, one directional maps. The metro system for example is like a rabbit warren! lovely.
Fallout 3 is Oblivion with guns. But that my friends is not a bad thing at all. Its a brash statement anyway, its not Oblivion, its in a post-apocalyptic world where you have to survive. There is no enphasis on building powers or anything, instead gameplay has moved the other way and everything you do is aimed at your staying alive. Whcih at first glance maybe doesnt sound exciting, but exploring becomes an obsession. you want your character to survive because you care about her (I always go girls in games for some reason!)
The animation is much better so you can wuite happily run about in 3rd person view without feeling like you're controlling something animated by chimps. I'm an animator and that was one of Oblivions biggest let downs..was how crap it looked when you jumped. There's still a slight element of that in Fallout but its been cleaned up alot.
There really is just so much to talk about. I got the hospital last night, i was playing at about 2 in the morning and it is so atmospheric its scary. It beats games like Condemned down with a stick, and Condemed's knack at scaring the bejesus out of you is unrivalled. Apart from begin atmospheric it is devestatingly beautiful. The textures are rich and lovely and the environment design is beautiful. You will often find yourself just standing... *sigh* :)
You need this in your life. although admittedly you might want to think about moving in by yourself or losing the girlfriend. I've had it for 3 days and already notched up 16 hours.

The Love Affair OverFirst, the ball can go anywhere, the midfield is so scrappy as the game seems to be only focusing on rock solid defence. The goalkeepers are extremely poor and keep dropping the balls, pro evolution, the love affair is over, fifa is the best. DO NOT GET THIS GAME

bottle caps are your currencyFallout 3 is a triumph why? There are many reasons and the first is the story.Right from the beginning you are given the choice to select your characters Race, appearance and name. Then after an initial opening meeting other vault Dwellers and your father voiced by Liam Neeson. You emerge into the hellish Landscape of capital wasteland.
The combat system used is called V.A.T.S and allows for various ways of disposing of enemies. It also allows for some unique and gory kills, and enemies can be killed with a shotgun blast at close range or laser fire at long range. Or you can place mines Or throw grenades giving the game a strategy in how the player chooses to dispose of Attackers.
Main story quest involves the search for your father, but I stress this game is total freedom you can do what you want. Explore the land take side quests, kill good people and receive bad karma or get good karma for freeing captives. This is what I Liked about it. This game gives the player moral choices, do you treat ghouls the Same as other humans for example.
Graphically it looks fabulous the landscape is desolate with ruined buildings smashed Bridges radiated rivers and warring bands of slavers ghouls and raiders. Audio is ok but the songs do begin to grate after a while especially DJ 3 dog who keeps everyone Informed of your developments. Their is no one way to play this game how you play It is up to you. I can't recommend it enough excellent graphics, great story characters And deep moral choices for the player.

oblivion in a brown landscapeI've played about 6-8 hours of this game and I'm not sure how much more I'll play of it yet. I don't want to be too negative, but I'm really not impressed with what Bethesda have put out with this effort. In fact, at this point, I feel positively mugged. There is so much deja-vu from Oblivion that i feel like I'm back in time to about 2 and a half years ago. And the problems that existed with that have not been addressed.
There are some good set-pieces, and the initial 'Vault 101' chapter is tense and gets you in. But this soon fades away when you enter the brown and desolate landscape, with the same music in the background as Oblivion- which is actually very inappropriate. The 'enemies' are the same, the graphics engine is the same and the battles are rigid, with too much emphasis on the VATS system, which soon becomes tedious. The character also progresses too slowly to feel any real gaining of advantage.
The non-player characters are wooden and poorly acted and I've felt no emotional hook to want to help them or hurt them. Why do these game developers assume gamers want to hear Hollywood actors in their games? And why do they rest on their laurels and mash bits of other games together and tout it as something new? Why?
Do I sound angry? Yes, because this game promised so much good fun and has really been a wast of time and money. I will persist a bit more and may update this review, hopefully I'll prove myself wrong. But I doubt it because the things that annoy me about it won't change.
I'm not saying that they need to do Gears of War mashed up with Mass Effect (two FAR superior games) or mash any games together for that matter. But after two-plus years, buckets of money and Xbox 360 technology, and the legacy of Fallout, they should be able to do substantially better than this.
