Usual Backslapping vocal crap.Yes, how the rest of Europe like to think they can write a good song and win, alas it does not come down to the music, that concept died a death years ago. What we have now is in house back handers in the shape of vote rigging and crap songs that you would die if you found it in your cd collection.

some great some good and one real turkeya 2cd collection of all the songs from the 2008 eurovision song contest. 43 entries in total. a chanceto hear all the songs again. and these are worth listening to if you're a serious fan of the contest because on occasion a song can lose something in the performance and it comes over better on cd.
dics one contains:
andorra: a great song that alas didnt get to the final
albania: a decent song and a good singer
armenia: feisty up tempo stuff and very catchy
azerbaijan: a nice tune but you can barely hear the words
bosnia & herzegovenia: a song that had a very daft performance but without that it's quite good
belgium: a pleasant little number
bulgaria: funky music but not much of a song
belarus: decent pop music but nothing special
switzerland: a superb song that alas didnt reach the final
cyprus: pleasant but not memorable
czech republic: decent pop
germany: nice but a bit low key
denmark: over performed but a good pleasant song
estonia: a rather unfunny comedy one that makes no sense if you don't speak the language
spain: a catchy little ditty. you'll either like it or hate it
finland: good hard rock
france: pleasant but a bit unmemorable
united kingdom: not bad but nothing special
georgia: a nice song but it never quite grabs
greece: excellent catchy song
croatia: nice music although the rap section gets in the way
disc two:
hungary: pleasant but not desperately memorable ballad
ireland: this is the turkey! dreadfully unfunny attempt at humour
israel: good song and good singer
iceland: excellent rock music and very well sung
lithuania: amazingly strong singer. good tune
latvia: a fun shanty you'll either love or hate. I loved it.
moldova: nice but doesnt quite work
montenegro: okay song but nothing special
macedonia: a song that grows on you after a few listens
malta: lively stuff but the lyrics can barely be heard
netherlands: great singer good song
norway: same as above
poland: good song but not the strongest of singers
portugal: operatic stuff and powerful at points
romania: a nice duet for a good ballad
serbia: a good ballad
russia: a good song and an excellent singer. the contest winner
sweden: superb singer but a good rather than great song
slovenia: catchy tune and great singer. another that unfortunately didnt make the final
san marino: a decent tune but it doesnt stick in the mind
turkey: excellent rock
ukraine: strong song and brilliant singer
but that's just my opinion. if you want a record of the contest to cherish, then this will do the job

Best songs for a whileGreat contest this year. Loads of great tunes. Ukraine should have won, was a slow starter in the voting. Love shady lady. Russia was ok ish but not a winner to me. UK song is always rubbish,no wonder we got no votes. Great song by sweden got nowhere either, very strange. Eastern block countries voted for each other, scandanavia did too, ireland voted for the uk! Probably the best song content for a long time.

Euro-tastic!Here's my reviews and predictions for all the finalists:
Romania-Good singers, but a bland song-not a hope in hell of getting anywhere near the winner's spot.
United Kingdom-Funky, good song, strong singer, but again not a hope in hell of getting in the top half (or even out of the bottom 5...)
Albania-Weak singer, will get sympathy for being sweet sixteen, but not enough to break into the top half.
Germany-Brilliant song! But sadly no chance of making it to the top half-and that is purely Eastern bias-undoubtedly ranking lower than it would if sung by Russia or any landlocked Balkan state.
Armenia-She was shouty and tuneless in the semis, but it was still damn catchy-qele qele-definitely a top 5, and probably a top 3 finisher-won't win though.
Bosnia-Very quirky-definitely a top half finisher.
Israel-I like it, and it was sung excellently, but who knows where it'll finish-but has less chance than most of winning.
Finland-I hope and pray Europe put this tuneless rock in the bottom 5 and suspect they will.
Croatia-ugh ugh ugh, how did this even get through-hopefully bottom 5.
Poland-So bland, so so bland and the singer is actually a joke, tuneless and barbied to the max-bottom half without doubt.
Iceland-This was performed brilliantly-I hope it makes top 5, but will definitely be in the top half.
Turkey-Bland, but sung well-will finish in the middle I reckon.
Portugal-One can only hope that this appalling song scores nul point.
Latvia-I really hope this doesn't do well, it is poor-I would guess it wud finish just inside the top half.
Sweden-Extremely professional and polished and very euro-pleasing. Top 5.
Denmark-Was sung very, very well-but I still reckon this is heading for the middle (probably bottom half-again due to its position in Europe).
Georgia-Was very surprised by the incredibly good voice that Diana has and I would say Georgia will finish in the top 7.
Ukraine-A big song destined for the top 5.
France-If there's any justice this will win, but hey its western so bottom half methinks.
Azerbaijan-An example of a tuneful rock song-top 10.
Greece-Very euro-friendly pop song and will undoubtedly do very well in the competition. Top 5.
Spain-Oh deary me, bottom two surely only Croatia will come lower....
Serbia-They've gone for another ballad, after last year's triumph, but Molitva was brilliant, Oro is not and this will only get any points because they're hosting the comp-and 12 from Montenegro....Bottom half.
Russia-Clearly the balkans wud b too scared not to give some points to Russia and to be fair this song does deserve them-they could win it this year. (Why is it Russia has been placed in an optimum position for both semi and final???)
Norway-My favourites and because of their position in the line up they will undoubtedly benefit greatly and should secure a top ten position.
Out of those who didnt make it to the final-Malta, Switzerland, Belgium, Andorra and Bulgaria should have made it replacing the ones I have criticised. There is a lot of dross in the form of Hungary, Belarus, Cyprus, Lithuania, Estonia, Ireland and The Netherlands.
