iStep Up/i happily joins the long line of movies intoxicated by sexy bodies in motion. When an overachieving dancer (Jenna Dewan, iTake the Lead/i) at an East Coast art school loses her partner just before a big showcase, her only possible replacement is a young tough (Channing Tatum, iShe's the Man/i) doing community service as a janitor. From there, iStep Up/i slams together a folio of cliches, from prissy-rich-girl-gets-loosened-up-by-poor-boy to hoodlum-learns-the-error-of-his-ways-through-personal-tragedy to artist-discovers-his-voice. It's set in one of those performing arts schools where the students burst into spontaneous synchronized dance at parties. But iStep Up/i, directed by choreographer Anne Fletcher, has a relaxed kinetic momentum and enough texture to give the nonsense just a hint of realistic grit. More than anything, iStep Up/i shows off hunky Channing Tatum. With his sleepy eyes, broad jaw, and sloping neck, Tatum looks like an Easter Island statue come to life. His acting range may be limited, but Tatum has a definite lazy charisma; even when dancing full tilt, he looks like he just woke up and is still dreaming of the night before. iStep Up/i also features Rachel Griffiths (iSix Feet Under/i) as the requisite tough-but-loving-authority-figure. --iBret Fetzer/i

Channing Tatum film Step Up
Step Up. This was an unexpected joy. I thoroughly enjoyed the film and Channing Tatum looked gorgeous and was a really good street dancer. br / br /haven't watched Step Up Two yet as lent the dvd to a work mate but she said Step Up Two is easily as good as Step Up, although without Channing Tatum as the central character, it isn't so appealing to me.

Not my thing, but....
... I bought it for my girlfriend's son, who was delighted. The 'Fame' and 'Dirty Dancing' of its day, it would appear.

Love it...cheesy plots, but who cares the moves are great!
Cheesy plots, but engaging enough. Both surprisingly different films. But who cares about any of that stuff - these movies are essentially about watching a feature length music video with the coolest, most entertaining dance moves! Outstanding fun! :))
