How do you improve upon perfection?
Anyone who is a fan of the timeless, majestic, Frank L.Baum classic 'The Wizard of Oz' should see this. Where the wonderful Musical 'Wicked' only undermines the positive feelings we have for 'Oz' - Tin man re-inforces just how good the original 70 year old (?) Classic film is. This remake combines disappointingly poor direction from Englishman Nick Willing, who seems completely divorced from the original story; an appaling script from Sickle & Mitchell (may namesake!); and a completely cardboard lead from Zooey Deschanel supported by a convincingly awful Allan Cumming - who proves once and for all his Tony's are about being in the right place at the right time. He is a cringingly awful half attempt at a character actor, who makes 'Karaoke' seem justified as stardom. Even Neal McDonough as the 'Tin Man' fails to impress - due mainly to a non-character (about whom the whole film is named) - who could easily have been ommitted without any noticable effect. Richard Dreyfuss must have had a serious tax bill to waste his considerable talent here and the only compelling performance is that by Kathleen Robertson as the Wicked Witch where without direction (it seems) she convinces. Coupled with a poor and meandering 6 hour storyline much better handled by the original in less than two hours, this is a piece of film-lore that should be experienced by fans but with the extreme trepidation it deserves. Compelling - if only for the original - but truly lacking. A 'cornucopia of cardboard' acting, direction and writing....

Brilliant and Entertaining
This is a wonderful and extremely entertaining program. Zooey Deschanel does a wonderful job as DG, a girl who travels to OZ after having some troubling dreams. She befriends Glitch, Cain and Raw and travels down an old yellow brick road to find the Mystic Man, a man who can help her find the answers to her past and her future.
One of the best things about this is what they've done with the original Wizard of Oz story - so many people have twisted this classic tale and made it their own, but this is no less entertaining because of it. They even manage to work the original story into this one, in one of the many twists and turns you get.
The actors and actresses are all well cast, and Kathleen Robertson does a wonderful job as Azkadellia, the evil witch who is determined to cast OZ into eternal darkness.
The only negative is that I'm not quite sure why this is being sold as a "Collectors Edition". There are two disks, so the whole series is collected here. There is also an extras section, but nothing else to mark this as any more outstanding than an ordinary DVD would be. Perhaps I missed something. The show itself, though, I could find very little fault with. Good story, entertaining, and brilliant special effects. This is a must watch for a dull weekend!

Ultimate Collector's Edition? Are you kidding?
I suppose I should have read the product description more closely, but "Ultimate Collectors Edition" must be a joke: it hasn't even got subtitles!

No director- or cast commentaries, no blooper reel, no alternate ending or deleted scenes, not even animating menues!

Nope. Apparently "Ultimate Collectors Edition", according to the manufacturer and even Amzon themselves, who state "amazing bonus features" in their own review, is what you call a DVD with just one very poor "making of" featurette.

Mislabeled. Mis-sold.

It was o.k

Quick short review as many have already wrote in detail.

If you are a big film lover that enjoys Very good special effects, great! story with loads of action....

then this is not for you. If you are easy going, just like a good story, then this is for you.

Reading all the reviews, all offering 5 star rating made the choice of renting this dvd very easy.

It comes in 2 disc, Disc 1 offers part 1 & part 2. Disc 2 offers part 3,

I would strongly recommend you watch all 3 parts to enjoy Tin Man. The acting is very good and the story is refreshing.

The special effects are not that great & the filming just comes acorss as a cheap budget TV show.

An absolutely fabulous piece of Sci Fi!!!!
Having only caught the first episode on the Sci Fi channel, which i loved and made me gasping for more i pre-ordered this as soon as i knew it was coming out on DVD. So now having got the DVD I watched it ALL last night because i HAD TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!!
I have got to say it is one of the best mini-series i've ever watched! From the acting to the sets and the special effects, the brilliantly wonderful characters, the gripping storyline, the battle between good and evil, the humour and sadness, and with the magic that is needed for this modern version of the Wizard of Oz. It's also really clever the way that things are linked to the original films, with little reminders all the way through such as OZ (Outer Zone), Tin Men (the name for the Emerald City police), the yellow brick road and loads more. The story build ups all the way through to a brilliant climax, full of twists and turns!!

I would recommend this to everyone, however old you may be, it's perfect for the whole family or a group of friends or whoever you are, you're guaranteed to enjoy this brilliant series, and at about 4 and a half hours long it is amazing value for money!! I absolutely loved it!!

Definitely worth the £12, order it up now and give yourself a few nights of top class sci-fi fantasy action, just watch out for those flying evil monkeys!!!
