What a gas........
Having purchased Series 1-7 some time ago, and laughed out loud through them all, Series 8 didn't let me down. I find "My Family" absolutely hilarious - can't wait to start at Series 1 and go through them all again.

Good but could have been better
Im a big fan of the My Family sitcom series and already own series' 1-7 and the xmas specials so when i bought the 8th series i found it to be a bit disappointing. br / br /In my view, the series has taken a slow turn in the wrong direction since the brilliant Kris Marshall (who played Nick) left after series 5 and now after this series, Siobhan Hayes who plays the not so bright Abi has gone too, thats 2 of the shows funniest characters gone. br / br /Leaving them aside, the 8th series focuses more on the parents Ben and Susan and both actors Robert Lindsay and Zoe Wanamaker give the usual great performances, its a good bunch of episodes with some good laughs but you cant watch it without feeling that it is just crying out for a character like Nick to return.

The plot is getting cruder compared with previous seasons
I am a big fan of My family and was looking forward to the new season. However, I have experienced a bit of a disappointment with season 8 - the plot is quite different compared with previous seasons and not in a nice way. It lacks the finesse of previous episodes- they may have changed the writers or given them targets and guidelines to work to. Disappointing...

One of the best series yet
I could never help feeling that 'My Family' lost its way after series 5. Kris marshall left permanently after a breif cameo in one episode, there were now just six episodes per series and the scripts were a lot less adventurous.However, series 8 was a great step forward.The 2005 Christmas special saw the introduction of Alfie Butts, a welsh busker.Ever since then, he has filled the void left by Nick. He is one of the most entertaining characters to have appeared in the series. The best episode for me is the episode featuring Mr.Casey.Just one complaint-Janey's storylines are all the same-MEN, MEN, MEN! Overall, the series was a great improvement,and I would definitely recommend it.

Top Notch Comedy for ALL the family
I agree with the last review, I too have this on pre order, the only difference in my review is that although the first series after Kris left was a tad iffy, since then it has gone from strength to strength, S8 was very good, the downside of the DVD's are no extras, but some have been filmed recently, whether they will be on this disc of series 9 is unknown. br /It is still the only sitcom that the whole family can sit down and watch safely, there is no need to resort to 'shock and awe' to try a raise a laugh, and the Chemistry between Robert Zoe is there for all to see. br /Alfie's character gets a bigger say now as well. br /They have just finished fliming series 9 (2009 ?) and completes 100 episodes, pretty damn good for multi channel tv these days, and yes Christmas 2008 is a two parter, the 2nd on New Year's eve br /RECOMMENDED !
