One of the worst films I've ever seenI did not expect something good, so I was, I thought, ready for this with my expectations lowered for something that would be little more than a time killer while I was ill. I never expected it to be this bad. Everything's wrong - the story, the 'acting', the special effects, in fact anything that could have possibly made this worth watching has been carefully and expertly removed from the whole experience. And for anyone pinning their last shred of hope that even the obligatory pointless nudity section will be any good - Jolene doesn't get naked, so, as far as I'm concerned, it fails there too.
br /I was thinking of giving this to a charity shop, but can't face the thought of subjecting anyone else to this dreck thinking they've picked up a bargain.
br /Please don't bother. I don't care if you like "bad" films, find something else to watch.

Pretty poor in all honestyI so wanted to like this movie - im a fan of the original and didnt mind the second one although it was no patch on the 1st.
br /
br /having read some half decent reviews on here i thought it give it a go and i settled in one night for what i was hoping was a 'guilty pleasure' night.
br /
br /Unfortunately i was massively let down by it - I understand it has a small budget and limited production resources ie sets, CGI etc but it just felt like a cheap copy - it like eating heinz tomato soup then going for the supermarkets 9 pence own brand and you realise no matter how much you might want this bowl of soup - it really is just a cheap imitation.
br /
br /There are some almost embarassingly bad bug scenes - esp the one where they break into the compound and chase the soldiers along the trenches - they look like they are puppets on sticks being bobbed up and down at the back. (they might well have been actually - i dont know)
br /
br /the plot is ludicrously thin - the whole film really could have been over in 15 minutes. the whole film was really what a bigger better one would have as a sub plot.
br /
br /in order to flesh out thwe film some of the scenes are agonisingly drawn-out. The fight in the bar goes on for too long - the crash landing on the sandy planet goes on forever without really proving or adding anything to the plot - and the final scenes with the big bug was testing my patience and the whole idea was really ridiculous - i was wondeirng how the actors managed to keep straight faces half the time....and the bit with the mauraders was a let down too.
br /
br /yes it doen have thos nazi style propaganda adverts and some good cheesy dialogue - but overall i really wanted to enjoy a good cheese fest, but i was pretty bored all the way through.
br /
br /Personally i'd say its on a par with the second one - but at least the second one was allowing itself to be a little bit different. The 2nd kept my attention more - and this one, despite its similarities to the original just leaves you wishing they hadnt have done it or at least tried to something a little bit different.

See you on the bounce, trooper! Rico's back.God or not, this is as good a way as any to spend a couple of hours. Casper is back as Rico, which lifts the film way, way above the second and the satire and way over the top camp acting are all to be found, most notably from Lola "The Lips". Way more terrifying than all the bugs although I guess the guys won't see it quite that way!

br /Have to confess to thoroughly enjoying this. I can't get too hung up on the realities of the weaponry, or even on the God bit, because it's really not meant to be taken seriously and is just another pop at ever larger and more graphically coloured bugs. Yes, there are one or two religious bits which are pretty irritating (Lord's Prayer anyone?) but I really didn't read any hidden revenge/God/goodness agendas at all. If anything I read completely the opposite. The Sky Marshall believes in his God, the rest aren't allowed to (part of society dictating what individuals do with their brains, like the rest of the Citizenship thing) and I certainly didn't take any of that seriously at all. "God exists! He's on our side! God's a citizen too! They're taking the piss, not expecting watchers to get their knickers in a knot about the cosmic thing.
br /
br /Not as good as the first one, no, but still thoroughly enjoyable provided you don't go into over-analysis mode. Maybe that's why nobody likes my film reviews - I'm not picky enough! Still, I want to be entertained, not have to take notes for later scribbling. Give it a go. What's the worst that can happen? You can always sell it on again.

AN ALTERNATIVE VIEWThere is a hidden agenda in this film which makes it possibly the most unlikeable in recent years. There is a very heavy emphasis on the relationship between, revenge, Christianity and violence. The overtone in this film is so dangerous because it has exploited a fear (on the one hand) of the aliens and a moral righteousness (on the other hand) of the military which is motivated by violence. The action sequences yet again speak a lot about the producers - people are killed willy nilly in the name of a military political group. The overall effect is one, not of irony, but of proseltyising for the right of the Bush Admin. In the previous 2 films there was an edge of satire and irony but it has been elimiated in this film to present the notion that if you fear you must trust a miliatry government. Avoid this film at all costs

good start but got disappointingThe 3rd starship troopers film could have been an excellent low budget film. The trouble with the film is that it tried too hard to look spectacular with all the computer animation and the visual result was average at best. The film started brightly enough with a cheesy but entertaining entrance of Rico. I liked that it showed a less glamorous federation, that the war was wearing them down and in a way the low budget helped the atmosphere. But the film rapidly became tiresome when we followed the crash survivors. I would have also liked Rico to have a bit more time on screen as van dien was the only credible actor in the film. Now the film is so cheap any starship troopers fans should buy it, but just be prepared to be dissappointed. Like most of the reviews say, its better than No.2 but not as good as No. 1
