Simply a masterclass!
It's been awhile ladies and gentlemen and I suspect much water has passed under the collective Kane family bridge but boy has it been worth it. Scotland's own "Gallagher Brothers" return with an album worthy of their mostly considered classic early period works. br / br /Hue Cry have always been something of an enigma, driven by their creative, spititual and fillial tensions but nearly always producing some of the most sublime pop/soul in decades. Their move into jazz influenced waters later in their career did not cause me (as it did some) to stop "Looking For Linda" but it did appear to be one of the final nails in their commercial coffin. br / br /Returning after their successsful commercial and critical appearance on "Hit Me Baby One More Time" the Open Soul cd is a real gem. Ridiculously hummable songs such as "Plan B, Last Stop and "Fireball" sit very easily with funkier tracks such as "Headin' For A Fall" and "C'mon Legs" whilst those afficionados of their jazzier leanings will find "Twisted Heart" appealing. br / br /Being brutally honest, I don't think their version of Beyonce's "Crazy In Love" works in the same way that their twisted version of Prince's "Sign Of The Times" did so well. It just doesn't hang together and ends up sounding forced. br / br /Still that is a minor gripe as Pat's voice can still charm the angels from the skies (although he doesn't believe in them lol) and Greg's musical talent is top notch - that boy can bang out a tune! br / br /Is it Seduced and Abandoned, Remote or Stars Crash Down? Well no, but that is not a criticism. It's a fine collection of songs from a band who I suspect find it difficult to work with or without each other. br / br /Welcome back boys - just keep things that can be thrown away from them!

HUGGY
Saw the Kane brothers in action on Wed night 15 OCT. They were just great and had the fans in the palm of their hands. The new albums has some fabulous songs on it. The combination of new and old songs show the Kanes are still a force to be reckoned with especially for real pop fans and not just those looking for the latest bandwagon to jump on

Brilliantly catchy
Over 10 years since their last somewhat average (by their standards) album-Next Move,Pat and Greg Kane are back with their best album since 1994's Showtime..the album bursts into life with opening tracks Fireball,Headin' for a fall and a fantastic cover of Beyonce's Crazy in love. br /European Child is one of the best songs they've ever done..Greg's musical production is spot on and Pat's voice is as glorious as ever..i've only had this about a week but have already played it around 20 times (all the way through) as there's not one track you'd want to skip..good to have you back guys.

Shuggie Shout It From The Rooftops - They're Back!
Hue Cry are back to the old (pop) form with an album of great songs. br / br /After several years away, and only a few jazz CDs before that, this is the Hue Cry I know and love, by which I mean Seduced Abandoned through to Showtime of 1994. br / br /No doubt the lyrics are all about rubber plants as a metaphor for Marxism or something, but the melodies and vocals are as distinctive and enjoyable as ever. br / br /There is probably nothing that will be a hit single like they had in the past, but that says everything about the charts and nothing about the band. This CD fits in perfectly with the standard and quality of the back catalogue. br / br /The best pop band from Coatbridge is back - rejoice!

It's been a while since these guys done a normal album, as you may guess I wasnt a fan of their jazz stuff, but these boys know how to make a good pop album, great return to form, if you like Labour of Love, looking for linda etc, you WILL love this, great cover of Beyonce's crazy in love, surely destined to be a hit single soon.... br /Great feel good soulful cd, good use of Horn sections.
