Tasteful, but I don't play it much!
Without the backing of PM, this is not likely to have seen the light of day - ok, but reruns of pm material with vocals and a couple of weakish sel-penned tracks, are what you are buying

Absolutely spell-bounding
Whether or not you are familiar with the music of Pat Metheny, this is an album that will provide you with hours of joy. The selection of tracks is simply wonderful; in these adaptations, most of Metheny's customary improvisational journeys have been removed so as to keep the bare lyrical essence of the original pieces. The result is a collection of song-form tracks in which Metheny's ability to conjure up perfectly balanced melodic lines and harmonic progressions shines through, undisturbed by the lush orchestrations typical of the Metheny Group efforts. AMJ's vocals are superb and her interpretation of the songs is amazingly attuned with Metheny's musical credo. A thoroughly superb album.

How did I overlook this one?
I must be on the wrong mailing lists, because I only found out about this album last week, despite being a Metheny fanatic since 1977's 'Passengers'. br / br /All I can ask is why did it take a Polish group to do the inevitable and turn Pat's melodies into proper songs? To my mind, many of Pat's compositions, particularly the earlier ones, belong in the great American songbook, as indeed do some of Keith Jarrett's, so this album gives them some of the recognition they so richly deserve. br / br /It goes without saying that attempting to update such a 20th century classic as 'Are You Going With Me?' takes some courage, but the band is clearly having a ball, and it works on every level. br / br /Pat Metheny's original ECM compilation, 'Works', is my standard CD loan to any friend as a test of whether our musical tastes stand any chance of overlapping. I've got half a mind to switch to this album!

reverberations
some familiar tunes to PatM fans. Very well played, some great arrangements, PatM soloing into the stratosphere. Good acoustic guitar as well. br /The only gripe I have is that AnnaMJ seems to wring emotion out of every breath-it is all a bit heavy on the Enya Reverb School of Harmony Singing. She is, however, in tune and the band are marvellous. br /Overly sweet in parts, but well worth a purchase.
