Its No Grave DisorderOk, I confess, I got this on download for around £6 - so it represents a bit more value to me, but I have to say, its a disappointment after Grave Disorder, which I really liked.
Another reviewer has commented that there is no rage & fury, well, its a long time since 1977, things & people move on - so I can forgive that. But for me, this album doesn't quite know what it wants to be. A bit of Eloise era, a bit of pop, a bit of Floyd. Its a bit like an all you can eat buffet, you end up with a plate full, but it loses its identity.
However, Little Miss Disaster is a cracking number - but was released a few years back now.
Still a great live act (not many bands that staretd life back then can say the same - my last Stranglers gig was awful) & still a reasonable album - just not as good as I hoped for & almost has an end of era feel about it.
I have to ask, what next for The Damned?

Uninspired, dismal MOR, boring stuff from once great bandI don't know what CD these other reviewers heard, but the one I got is incredibly disappointing. Yes, seven long years since GRAVE DISORDER which was good, but not great, but at least sounded like the classic DAMNED. The new CD is all over the map which works against itself. Moreover, it sounds like one of those silly Captain Sensible solo records from the late 80s early 90s. There's not one stand-out track, not one single hit and not one song that sticks in your head. DR. WOOFENSTEIN? Are they writing kid songs now? Please. DARK ASTEROID? A blatant steal from Pink Floyd's INTERSTELLAR OVERDRIVE. They had obviously run out of material and needed to fill the additional 12 minutes. LITTLE MISS DISASTER a puff piece about Vanian's daughter. Is he getting soft in his old age? Where's the fury? Where's the rage? They've definitly become cabaret. But in fairness, very few bands with this longevity have been able to come out with consistently good material, save for The Buzzcocks. At least the Damned will always have a brilliant back catalog they can still trot out at shows. As far as SO WHO'S PARANOID?, I think they might have a future in Broadway Musicals. One final note, how about some graphic design for the booklet? Or is that supposed to be punk? Save your money and get the latest CD from SILENT MEOW instead.

Damned AwesomeDave Vanian , Captain Sensible & co are back with a 13 track monster..not one duff filler on the whole album (as if there would be)..you'll find yourself itching to play this over and over again.
Every song has a perfect hook to keep you going back for another listen and what a cool sleeve to go with it.
In a world full of so many new sound-a-like , bland , middle of the road guitar bands ,it's a 30 year old "punk/goth" band that sound the more refreshing and full of ideas , and go see them live if you get the chance..Brilliant!.

the one and onlyAbsolute class. The Damned at their very best. The best stuff the Damned have done over the years for me has always been a collaboration between the lighter poppy side of The Captain and the darker side of Mr Vanian. This has it all ,massively catchy singalong tunes and wonderfull melodic dramatic, almost operattic masterpieces and lots in between. Typical Damned. Put it on and you will never take it off. And if you do take it off the tunes will be with you all day. Genius.[ps] Saw them last night in Manchester and they are as good as ever, Pinch bangs away as fast and furious as anyone you care to name and Stu looks more comfy every time I see him. Great gig, cheers.
